Leonardo's Lagoon

Its an all-natural product. Make damn sure you do not have a skimmer running though, if you dose your display tank. It will foam all over the place. If you can remove colonies, then using a dark colored bowl or bucket works well, so you can see them when they fall off. There's a decent video on RF about this.

Thanks for the info Jonathan. If the Melafix is available over here I will compare it to Revive and see which I prefer for future preventive treatment.
Have you tried an in-tank treatment for AEFW with it also?

Greg, I read about the golden ratio in nature in a book called "Japanese Gardens". It is not really reef- and aquascape related, but the information, examples and the calculations behind it can be used for aquascaping also :)

Don't know about the Pine-sol :) We don't have that brand over here. ;)

Eveything is studied thoroughly and that makes you succesful my friend Leonardo.
I can see that Pythagoras and his golden ratio adviced you well in your tanks dimensions...

Thanks for the compliment Teo reef :)

What are the experiences regarding to Acropora Crabs. Do they survive a Revive and Levamisole treatment, of do they have to be removed temporarily?

They will die in both dips. Sorry to hear about the AEFW's, they can be a pain, but I'm sure you'll make it though it :).

Thanks Brian, I will remove them before treatment. I have had my share with AEFW already, so I don't panic anymore :) I just want to get rid of them permanently before I start my new tank, it isn't fun to break down a new project after a few months to treat for AEFW.
On the other hand it is a safe idea to give all the corals for the new tank a thorough treatment so I don't have to be nervous for another infection later on :)

Leonardo

That's a postive look on the situation. I guess it better now than when the are all grown out in the display for a few years. Still never fun....

Okay, so I'll just stick with the long AEFW treatments with Levamisole (@50 ppm for 5 hours) because it will 100% kill al the AEFW, and use Revive to detect an infected colony before I add it to the display.

Mark, do you have any quarantine procedures for new colonies?

Leonardo

Sorry, I missed this one.

Yes, I QT everything for at least 4 weeks now. Everything gets a revive bath, turkey basted, the base removed and looked at under a spot light before entry into the QT system. I mark it in the calendar what day they are put in. That gives me a visiual chart of when they are eligible to be removed. It's then when I do another round of revive and inspection before the final decision about putting them into the display. Having a QT system allows me to get a coral, observe it and not be in a rush to put it into the dispplay. I used to not be so religious about my QT. To this day, I still have no idea where the aefw came from, but its not about the other people, it was about me not taking the correct measures to help the health of my corals.

The next time I pick up a few corals, I plan on doing a small pictorial write up of the corals entry

The one thing I have learned is that they are not the end of the world as they can be beat!

You're right, they can be beat. And it is your own responsibility to inspect en quarantine the corals before you place them in the tank. Treatment in this stadium is not that hard for me, because all the collected corals are still on eggcrate. And like I said before, knowing that your tank is pest free is worth a lot.
Thanks for writing up you're quarantining procedure. I will definitely set up a QT. Looking forward to your pictorial write-up :)

Do you think it is a problem to by-pass the QT to the system, +making sure nothing can enter the system using a 50 micron bag? That would definitely make stability and the parameters much more easy.

Thats a discussion I have had a few different times with a few different circles of people. The pros to a sysytem of that sort is the stability, The con is, what if one little tiny egg makes it through after you have already done all the work. Another con is having two stable systems  I know, not really a con ;)

In the end, I just watched the for sale threads and started piecing together a QT system. The peace of mind I have will new corals is much better than when I was thinking of getting out and having to break down the tank and starting over.

Its February and for the first time in years Im on the edge of my seat because of it!

Cant wait to see the new build!

Cheers,
Peter

Haha me too! When i saw this thread back on first page i was like Yeah! The new build has started!..... Leonardo! Give us something :)

Sorry guys, as always -the tank builder has a delay-. It will take about one more week :(

In the meantime I will start the AEFW treatment for my corals. Today my package with two bottles of Revive arrived. I will combine that with a 4 weeks Levamisole treatment. I'll keep my fingers crossed!

Leonardo

Good luck against the AEFW Leonardo. Please document your process so I can learn just in case I need to use it some day (knock on wood!).
