they need constant food they are grazers as Steve has stated and they need alot of pods ! they will consume hundreds per day and that will extinguish your population real fast so beware of that . i was even feeding mine five or six times a day and they were fat and happy it seemed but much to my dismay they still didnt survive .i work 1 minute from my house so it affords my to feed every couple of hours which i thought that it was enough. there may be something that i am missing but i dont know what it is .their grazing is kinda like us eating corn one kernel at a time , gotta eat all day long just to survive .
beat wishes to ya Dave

Species of leopard: Female Ornatus
Source (LFS, online, etc): LFS
Method of introduction (quarantine, straight-to-tank, etc): Straight to tank. Drip acclimated for ~1 hour.
Tank set up (reef, fowlr, size, age, etc): 75G SPS dominated reef w/ 30g sump & ~15g fuge. Set up since August 08', rock from existing system that was set up for 2 yrs.

Just picked her up today at my LFS. They held her for 10 days - she was eating everything they threw at her in the tank.

This is a pic from the LFS a few days ago:

She showed no aggression towards my melanurus, was out for a few minutes, and then did a sand dance and clouded up the tank for a few minutes.

I've had the melanurus for a week and a half. Kind of fell in love with both of them.

May need to change my name to iamwrasseman2....LOL

I just found a yellow wrasse at another LFS today. I'm really wanting him too.

When did fish become so cool?

well for me it was in the early 80s and all we had was undergravel filters that were set up wrong usually .bach then i thought of one of my best fish sayings "its [the fish ]pretty much just a rental' .but everything since then has gotten a lot easier and i have some wrasses that i have had for over seven to eight years so its getting better than "renting" IMO .also when you get more than twentyfive wrasses then you can get a wrassey type name ,lol .until then good luck collecting them and dont be afraid to ask questions about them because some are rather difficult to keep and then some are nearly impossiable . if you read this whole tread you will hear about our many successes and sorry to say also the many losses . my vain attempts to keep choati leopards has gotten me close to the poor house a couple of times but i will keep trying .
good luck Dave

Oh yes. I have read the entire 21 pages. When my LFS got the leopard in, I did a search and came up with this thread. Read through all of your trials and tribulations with the choati (how do you pronounce that anyways?).

My ornate came out today and ate mysis (wife fed her). She swam around quite a bit, and picked the rock a little. From what I've read, they should hunt constantly. Is she just not acclimated yet? I am also going to treat the whole tank. Would you recommend the jungle anti-parasite food? Petsmart has it available, which is local for me and convenient. I'm not sure where to get PraziPro, as one of my LFS looked at like I was crazy when I brought it up. They said to feed spectrapure (which I do anyways, but not for internal parasites).

So, will the pellet anti-parasite work (assuming the leopard will eat it - every other fish I have eats pellet, including the hoeven's wrasse). Or would I be better off treating with PraziPro? And if so, where do I get it?

Thanks,

Ronnie,
the prazi pro is better but if they will eat the pellet jungle jims that would probably suffice . i have found that safe and sure is the way to go so i would recomend the prazi pro just to be on the safe side .

dr fosters and smith has it , most online stores probably carry it or you can see if you lfs can order it for you .

Bluespot22 ? ? ?

Sorry, I meant thanks for the clarification/exclamation of why the chaoti's need pods if they are already eating mysis.

oh cool i didnt get that .they will eat zillions of pods per day ,its amazing that all they do all day long is pick on the rock . they also have amazing eyesight that enables them to see the pods accuratly so they can pick them off the rocks . the pods we see are large ones ,they are getting the smallest of pods also .

well good news i pulled the trigger a couple of days ago and in the mail came ..................................................................................................................................... two Halichoeres rubricephalus wrasses ~ wow are they beautiful ! one male is colored real well and the other male is just awesome ! wicked coloration on both and they are pretty hardy so lets see what happens .had to put them in my personel collection tank next to my bed ,now the wife has competition in the bedroom . will post pictures soon once they get settled down ,dont want to freak them out .

i just finished reading this thread and i am slightly confused about the coloration of the bipartitus, meleagris, and geoffroy males and females. it seems like the males tend to look similar, is that true? also if you have male/female pair (bipartitus, meleagris, and geoffroy), can you post pictures? thanks!

i want to order a M. bipartitus from blue zoo but want to make sure im gettin the right one... they only have females in stock right now. this is one half orange and half blue bodied one correct?

FWIW I have ordered maybe 5 leopards incl two male bipartitus from blue zoo and only had one survive. Don't get me wrong, blue zoo has healthy livestock and Mark really knows his stuff. I just think the leopards are super sensative to shipping stress. If you are going to get one from any online vendor, make sure you call them and beg for lots of water in the bag.
