I am sorry to hear about your losses wrasseman. Now you have me getting a little nervous. My choati is still going strong, but I haven't had it as long as you had yours. Did you ever notice any signs of internal parasites? I wonder if a treatment with prazipro might be a good idea. I have heard that it is pretty safe to use in a reef tank.

i would definatly do that if you can , thats the only step that i did not do that i had planned for thease guys and that may be my shortcoming in this instance . they were so energetic and eating so well that i did a stupid thing and skipped the anti parasite treatment .mine are in with corals and i was scared to try the prazipro ,which is just so stupid on my part . boy o boy hindsight is worth so much in this case . i would definatly try to treat them with something like the prazipro . jungle jim makes a food that has anti-parasite stuff in it and i have that and prazipro on my shelf right now ,just didnt use it . i really feel like an idiot because i really had a good plan and strayed a bit from it .not a good thing IMO i have lost two choati leopard wrasses and had a few more tricks that i failed to take so i consider it pretty much my fault at this time .yes they may have died even if i took other steps but i had the stuff on the shelf and it was purchased just for them . kinda disappointed in myself at this point ~
please try to use the prazipro asap because it hit fast whatever it was ,i havent seen the third one in two days either so i am certainly worried that i have failed thease guys and it cost them thier lives .

I can understand why you didn't treat them. Mine has been perfect from day 1 also, and I wouldn't have thought about it if you hadn't posted your losses. When a fish is eating well, has good weight, and otherwise normal behavior it is hard to understand how they could go downhill so fast. I think I will go ahead and treat with the prazipro as a precaution. I have it sitting on my shelf just in case I ever needed it.

Thanks for posting, and again I am sorry about your losses.

Ellen

thanks Ellen and my best wishes are with you with your choati and any others that may be affected . its great to hear that your gonna go the little extra to hopefully ensure thier health . mine were fat and i really cant understand what it was that happened .live and learn i guess ,but i really didnt learn to much except how to lose almost a thousand dollars worth of fish in a single month ! i am sure that yours will be just fine especially now that he will get treated ,my hats off to you !

Wrasseman, Sorry for your losses. It's a dilemma when they looked so good coming out of the bag and you've such a beautiful tank and I would probably done the same on holding off the prazi. Last year I got a 3" Goldflake and 2 small Bluespot angels around the same time and they were eating pretty much right out of the bag and knowing how sensitive they are and I kinda held back on prazi and by the time I did the treatment it was too late. The GF stopped eating to dead in only 3 days.

It's tough to lose such beautiful fish but I think you've the setup to care for them. Don't give up on them in the future and keep up the good work.

thanks for the comments , i guess its time to move on and keep the rest of my wrasses up as i have done in the past .good luck with all youd wrasse endevers !

Dave

Sorry for the loss, iamwrasseman. I get so much hope up when they make it past a month or two, so I bet it's pretty frustrating after they've been doing fine for a while... My bipartitus is starting to ride the glass a lot lately. I hope that's not a sign of things to come...

do you think that maybe the last one in introduced the parasite? is it contagious? any other leopard's having symptoms?

no sighns at all and i really have no idea what the heck they died from they are still fat ! dead but fat no other wrasses have been effected at all . maybe they collect them with drugs that permentally hurt them ? maybe i just missed something but i will say i have 20 other wrasses in the same system and they are all very happy . all water peramiters are really good the only thing that is in anyway bad is there always is a very small amount of nitrate most of the time but thats at 5-10 max almost a guess at that level its so close to undetectable .

looks like my African Leopard found his little home. Here is a picture of the piece of pvc with a 90 degree elbow filled with sand.

I finally caught my fish diving into the sand in the pvc elbow. It seems to be wroking so far. If I see him getting bigger I will put in a bigger pvc elbow. The video is not as clear as I would like but you will like.

Day 5, no sign of my fish!

do you have any leopard wrasses right now in your tank that are alive?

It didn't take me long to get that video. This fish calls it a night pretty early everyday, as soon as some lights go off he goes into his hole.

Day 8 no sign of MM, and last night at 6pm my very "healthy" & fat biparitus went into sand BEFORE dinner (never happened), and she's not out today. She's up by 10:30 to 11:30 am eastern. It's 1pm.

this sucks!

Well, my bipart did not come out today. I guess this starts the downward spiral. I guessing that the new leopard passed something on? Or does this occasionally happen? This has never happened since day 1!

they will do some pretty weird things in the begining .they seem to have trouble getting switched over to the correct light cycle . i think that its one of the things that hinders their survival rate along with many other conditions. hope he make an appearence soon again for you and straightens out !
