Leopard Wrasse Primer

i have a few leopards and other burrowing wrasses that sleep with only partial coverage in the sand bed ,almost like sleeping with the sheets rolled back . lol

Got my black leopard and leopard wrasse yesterday. The leopard wrasse started swimming in the tank and the six line went after it. It took me a good hour to get the six line into my sump. I am going to send him to another home, I want a peaceful tank not an aggressive tank. The Potters and Tang ignored both wrasses.

My leopard ate live brine and a little mysis shrimp. It seems to be doing well, only time will tell for now. The black wrasse buried itself in my 1-1.5" sandbed. Then came out while I was moving everything in trying to get the six line. It grazed the rock for a while and was hanging out with the leopard, it looks like they are buddies. Then buried itself underneath the gravel. They are both really cool looking, especially the black wrasse with the cream spots. Will report progress later.

Thanks for the pointers flfireman. I will keep a close eye but it looks like my sandbed is deep enough because both wrasses are buried.

I did not know the six line was a devil fish, lol.

I have 2 bipartus and a meleagris reserved at my LFS to be added to my existing 5, what's everyone's thought's on adding 2 bipartus with one already in the tank? I'm looking to get one to change to male.

aaron you should be okay but the bipartus sometimes get to be aggresive but that is once they get older .

Cool, thanks. I've had her a year, the new fish are pretty much her size and they were the biggest I could get. She's definitely got the most attitude of the 5 in there. If it goes pear shaped I can always trap and sump her for a short period.

I was hoping to get some opinions on further additions to my wrasse list. Tank is 48x30x18.
Currently I have 2 Flame Hawkfish, 2 Choati wrasses, 2 Splendid Mandarins, 1 Bicolor Foxface (juvi), 1 Stigmata Blenny.

Further additions:
Pair Cirrhilabrus Balteatus
Trio Cirrhilabrus Exquisitus
Pair Cirrhilabrus Rubrisquamis
Juvi Haliochoeres Marginatus
Pair/trio Smithvanizi or Ventralis Anthias
Possibles:
Either Kuiteri pair or Melanarus male/pair or Psychedelic male/pair.

Wish list:
Lunatus, Beauperryi, Earlei, Brunneus pair(s)

Comments on single males vs pairs, and whether certain additions would be bad combinations, would be appreciated.

Good news and Bad news, :/

The Good: My leopard wrasse is eating PE mysis just like everyone recommended on this thread. Its doing really well in my tank, I counted it ate about 10 mysis shrimp so he is fat and happy. It did not like the different brand mysis or the hikari krill.

Anybody get them to eat spectrum pellets? What is NLS pellets? Thanks.

The Bad: My black wrasse is a goner, I found him dead today. It sucks because it was my favorite. I did not use the Prazi Pro, did not get here on time. Will try that the next time but it died within 3 days. I am going to try again, I really want a black wrasse.

Is it better to buy a smaller black wrasse or should I buy a medium sized one? Thanks.

NLS= New Life Spectrum, same thing.
So far mine will only eat PE or Hikari mysis. I also feed Spectrum pellets, Formula 1 and 2 flakes and Nori. No interest whatsoever in anything but the mysis.

Thanks for the clarification A sea K , I will try to add the pellets each time I add the PE mysis. I really want the wrasse to eat spectrum pellets.

My Macropharyngodon ornatus readily eats mysis, brine, bloodworms, NLS pellets and flake. Just feed with the mysis and it will get the idea eventually. My juvi bipartus would ate some flake, along with frozen, but would not touch the pellets. It just is luck sometimes I feel.

Thanks SoCalDude, I am just hoping it lives. Today its has not been out and Im a little concerned. Yesterday it was out and about, swimming and eating PE mysis. Today it has not come out. I hope I see it out tomorrow.

I have a yellow coris and coati wrasse, they are both doing great
I just added a indo-pacific leopard wrasse female, it's the same size as the other 2 wrasses, they chased her around alot, I caught her and put her in my sump
What should I do? I really wanna keep her,but don't wanna stress the choati wrasse, I don't really care for the yellow coris. Please see any advice
Also it's a 125 gallon tank

Maybe try introducing her in a breeder net first for a couple days so the other fish can get used to her. I think that's a pretty common approach with wrasses though I've never tried it.

Also, impressed you could catch her. That can be tough to say the least.

yes the catch was lucky for sure . an acclimation box has been effective for many people so that is certainly an option and i would give that a try for sure . also you could remove the two fish and add yours ,put the two fish in the sump for a few days and then reintroduce the two back into "their" tank . if you can move some of the rockwork around a bit then i would attempt this and then you can put your new fish into the mix as it will remove the "territories" of the choati and the coris.

Thanks for the great advice guys, just am afraid not to get the choati wrasse stressed, it's my pride n joy for sure. Thinking about removing rock work and catching the coris and trading it in for something else. Yes caught the indo-pacific leopard very very easily, she was near an over flow, scared of the other 2 wrasses. Netted her very easily. Now she is in the sump, eating pods and swimming around, have a Tupperware with sand for her to sleep in. Will keep you all posted . Won't be able to do it this Sunday. Ramadan just ended, having family over for a big feast all day Sunday.

Unfortunately the 2 bipatus never made it out of the shop. I added the meleagris and the other 5 killed it pretty much. I had to put it out of it's misery, it was swimming upside down in the corner and they were attacking in continuously.There was no coming back from the state it was in. Very sad to watch and I feel terrible not being able to separate it in time to save it.

My latest addition, a Potters Wrasse. I have him for about 2 months, he hid for about 3 weeks before I saw him, won't eat the 1st week out of the sand. Glad that he's eating mysis. pellets and nori now. My Chaoti and Ornate Leopard picked on him the 1st few days, but he held his place and got along with everyone now.
