Let me see photos of your cubes

Not store bought cubes but custom-made glass or acrylic cubes (true cubes to dimension). I’m thinking about starting a project. Maybe a 1.5’ or 2’ cube. Also would like to hide all the plumbing. Not sure how this is possible with still having the surface skimmed. But I’m sure someone can chime in…

if you want to hide all the equipment and still get the urfac skimmed you can put in a center overflow and hide it within the liverock. this won't be skimming the surface but the surface water won't have any gunk on it.
