McCliffy - I can't recommend bulbs for ya. I'm a noob in that department. I asked GrimReefer, and ordered exactly what he suggested. LOL. Try hitting up Danskim. He knows a lot more about bulb choices than I do, and I like the color on his tank.

tbone - thats a good idea, ill post the question in the T5 Q&A thread. I'm planning to get a bunch of different bulbs to play around with, but having someplace to start is nice.

aaronovky - most everything from my current tank is going in there. So a few LPS, a lot of SPS, and a lot of fish (I've caught the angels in the reef bug, plus some anthias, a couple tangs, I got the reeflo 250 so I can stock heavy :) ).

Mike,

Nice choice on the Sfiligoi. I saw it in action at IMAC, and it looked very well made. When are you stopping by? I'm finally filling the sump up as I type this.

Jflip - I'm all about the T5s. I have a 400w MH on my current setup, and I might miss the shimmer a bit, but not really. MH are still present the lowest up front cost to light a big tank. What did you decide on again? Lumenarcs?

I found a member selling a Aquamedic 2x250w MH + 2x54 T5 set up for $380. And I dont think I can pass that up. Though the T5s seem so tempting. Especially since Im going SPS/LPS/softie, not just SPS.

I went from T5 to MH, and really, the shimmer doesnt do much for me. I honestly dont even notice it half of the time.

Believe it or not, Im still a little UNDECIDED on lights lol. The aquamedic will come out to $640 or so after gas, and new bulbs. Or the Tek 8x54 T5s are $520 with my choice of bulbs, and free shipping. The only negative is I have a huge brace in the middle of my tank. So I like how the MHs are set up over the openings, and not wasting some lighting like the T5 unit will be thats going to be lit up over the braace.

So yeah, Im not too sure. I am sure I turned your thread around into my flip flopping, though lol.

I am at my wits end.

They built the external overflow into the wrong side! It will take them a month to build another tank. I've about had it. I called A.G.E. and if they can build one in 4-5 weeks I'll be asking for my deposit back and getting an A.G.E.

It sounds like your better off ordering from elsewhere. That kind of screw up is just stupid. How did you find out about it?

They just called me. I even sent them this schematic so the f-up was pure and simple carelessness.

so is the overflow box all the way touching the back on the one side?

No it is actually in the middle of the back (long side). Completely unworkable. First this means I'd have to reach over the overflow to work in the tank. It also makes it harder to access the sump. All the holes in the sump are drilled so they are right under where the overflow is supposed to be (on the side). Plus the overflow needs to go directly into the skimmer (also on the side). Since its an external overflow (with notches cut in the back), it requires the tank be rebuilt with a new back side.

I wouldn't accept the tank as is right now. I would either ask for them to re-do the tank with a discount, or take my money elsewhere.

I will likely be going elsewhere - I'm worried that if they made such a glaring mistake, what other mistakes are they making? I don't want my tank bursting open.

so which side did they mistakenly put the overflow on?
sorry just trying to get it all in my head.

sucks you have to deal with this. i had a minor hiccup with my tank too. i had them send me pics and they painted the whole back black when it was supposed to be just the overflows and sides covering overflows. apparently the paint tech missed a note in the paperwork so they stripped the paint off :P pretty annoying but at least they took care of it.

hope you are able to recover any money youve paid if you decide to order elsewhere.

Id feel exactly the same, if they can get something as simple as this wrong who knows what else could happen.

You make a very valid point there, go with another builder and enjoy your piece of mind.

Ryan - so in the picture above it the back (long) side if you are facing the tank. since external, its not a matter of moving the box, its a matter of rebuilding the tank. I don't think they are in any position to argue if I ask for my money back. The deposit I gave them made a contract that required certain things of them, they have deviated far enough from their obligations that the contract is broken and since they would have to build a new tank anyway, its better to just give me my cash back.

yikes, thats a pretty darn big error.

you know you should move forward with finishing your build in the mean time...... just go get like a small acrylic tank as a display placeholder so you can start messing with the rest of the system :D
