Let's see those open-top lighting setups..

Hey Peezee what type of fixture is that?

Keep these pictures coming everyone! Comments about what fixture model and light spill over, heat, etc. are REALLY appreciated!

Its an Odyssea dual 150w hqi with 84w of t5 blues. I got it from aquatraders.com and changed out the bulbs to coralife 10k bulbs. Doesnt seem to spill the lights too bad. Since my tank is in the dining room, we just turn off the main lights and eat while having the tank light the table just enough to see what youre eating.

Anyone have any open-top pics of Lumenarc mini's? The more I research, the more I want these reflectors..

Spoon671 ,

What kind of light fixture is that?

I love how there is minimal light spillage into the sorrounding room.

I am in the process of designing a set-up for a 29 tall and could use some ideas.

Thanks

Here's mine. Pine, with high temp paint, 1000 degree insulation, and two metal halides in each.

Geris,

Did you build the canopy so that you could use the feet? I have a 30 long and bought a halide/pc hood with feet and assumed it would fit. Well, of course the hood is too wide so I can't use the feet on just the tank. Currently thinking of hanging it or building an open top canopy to sit it on.

Yes, Doug, I build the canopy for that same reason and also I wanted the lights to be a little farther away from the tank so that it doesn't heat up as much. Is a real easy build, and then a coat of marine varnish for protection and in my case a coat of black paint to match the stand. I thought of hanging them also but went with this alternative after seeing a few examples here on reefcentral, a few of whom have posted some photos for you (on page 1) by the way.

Here are a couple of pictures of my new setup. I plan on putting a small wood skirt around the top of the tank to keep the light leak to a minimum. Plus, since the stand is so high, the light hits my wife square in the eyes.

As you can see, I still need to clean up the wires on the right side of the tank.

hey spoon671 -- your tank is great looking!! that's just the look i'm hoping to get... what bulb are you using in that pendant???? the color is awsome!!!
thanks,,,lisa

HI LISA! Thanks alot for the comments! I hope my tank ends up staying like this for a while, I am only now getting into SPS. The bulb is a 14500K Megachrome HQI by Giesemann. Expensive bulb but daddy like.

Peace

Love the open look, think I'm definately going with that when I put the new tank together.

Could those of you that've posted images comment a bit on light spillover, etc?
