Let's see those open-top lighting setups..

Here's my work in progress. I upgraded to 400W 10K halide recently (a cheapo $100 DYI package on eBay), so I had to make a quick hood for the reflector, etc. I have two 4" holes on each side, to put in some fans, which I haven't yet. It's alot of light for a 29gal, but I keep the bulb fairly high off the water, around 20" or so. I also added a quick lexan splashguard. If you're wondering about what kinda bulb I'm using, it's a 10K form PlusRite. (www.plusrite.com , some company in China.)

Nice tanks and lighting everyone. But does anyone use a parabolic reflector with their MH's and not have them convered in anyway. I'm trying to figure out how I'm gonna set up mine.

Dave,

Nice setup. Can you tell me how far the shelf sticks out and where you bought them? I've been looking for a long one to put above my tv so I will have something to put my center channel speaker on. My problem is everything I've been able to find it too short.

Thanks,

i was thinking of doing an open top for my 90G high but with all the lighting spilling out and Metal Halides being very strong, doesn't anyones eyes start to hurt or see yellow after a while???

my eyes are already bad.. i dont' want to mess with them anymore, then in the long run go blind :( .

GREAT THREAD BY THE WAY!!!

Here's mine. Pine, with high temp paint, 1000 degree insulation, and two metal halides in each.

Here is my set up. Not a hanging pendent but not a normal hood.

I'm using 2 250 aquamedic ocean lights. I plan to add a couple t-5 actinics down the road.

This is bofore it was painted and before the wires ran inside the wall

Sinistard ââ"šÂ¬Ã¢â‚¬Å“ Great setup!!

Hereââ"šÂ¬Ã¢"žÂ¢s mine. Wife wouldnââ"šÂ¬Ã¢"žÂ¢t let me hang the pendant from the dining room ceiling, so I had to make a suspension system.
