Let's see your best looking clams!

Hello all,

Yes, for the record, the red teardrop I posted (on page 3) is not mine. I found the first 2 pics from this forum, the rest our mine (as mentioned in the post).

Thanks for sharing, lots of great pics posted here!

James

Here is one of mine:

I was the one who purchased the red teardrop from AP. The red teardrop didn't look that red neon color when I recieved it. But it did have a red/maroon looking color from above. It was still a great looking teardrop. It overcame the gapping ,but sadly lost the battle with mantle pinching disease.

I just purchased my digital camera recently so, I don't have another pic of the clam.

That red teardrop is not James' clam. In fact that picture was taken and sold BUT THE PICTURE IS TOTALLY doctored. That clam was sold though and Typhoon bought it. He has since lost the clam to pinched mantle disease. That clam which I sought after for many months no longer exists.

Minh, what do ya think about the green clam on the right, in the pic fishnred posted?
What about it? I think it is a very beautiful Maxima (may be Crocea)

Wow! There are a lot of beautiful clam pics in this thread! I worked up a sweat just looking through them...so I'm kind of clammy now
I've had a clam exactly two days. Here's my derasa shortly after I placed it in the tank.

It's a Squamosa.
Are you sure? I can't tell but the color is highly unusual for Squamosa. If it is a Squamosa, it would be a clam to kill for. It will get huge and colorful. I know d. Knop state otherwise, but IME, Squamosa are much bigger and grow much faster than Maxima.

IF Mr.Knop states otherwise so he is wrong, Squamie will outgrow a Max anytime, it'll also grow under not perfect conditions. (when I think about it, are ya sure he said that???)
Well, I dint kill for it, but I did end up paying alot of money.
Ya guys probably remember that I was looking for one.

Picture please. It looks great.
It been a while since i read the book by D. Knop, but if my memory is not too bad, I remember he give size for each species of clams. he gave the size for Maxima and Squamosa to be about the same, about 35-40 cm. It seem everybody start to copy his number so that is the number I see these days. I have seen Squamosa much bigger than this at The Seattle Aquarium.

The clam Mariner posted is a derasa. The verticle mantle markings and lack of scutes are prominent.
Vili_Shark and I was talking about another clam.

David, don't feel bad, I thought they were talking about my clam at first too.
Here's a little better pic
