Levamisole In-Tank Treatment for AEFW

one main thing for me is i know i still have them cause every once and awhile ill see fresh bite marks and try finding the one that did it but turkey basting and getting them out is hard.

Got a link? This sounds like conjecture to me. It's true that if you have a infestation of red planaria and have a massive die off they release toxins. Nothing that some carbon and water changes can't handle. I've treated my tank 4 times starting about 5 weeks ago and my fish are all fine, eating like pigs.

Sorry guy i was surfing the web looking for somthing else and stumbled on this post on AEFW and thay were talking about this treatment on 2 or 3 sites but never saved the sites. Sorry . This is what i read dont know if its true or not .

Started my 4th dosage today, will most likely do two more to be sure. Haven't seen any flatworms in a long time and I haven't seen any bite marks either. Tri-colors and millis are looking really good.

I'm going to suction the floor and turkey baste all the corals.

That's great news! Keep it up.

Be careful with Levamisol!
It can cause a flesh-eating disease in humans.
I've seen some pictures and they are not pretty.
I don't think the risk is high, but better be careful.

Hi everyone. I been lurking over this thread for quite some time. I finally got my order of prohibit and the digital scale from harborfreight. My system is a 112gallon+40gallon sump. With rocks, and the sump being only half full, I figured total water volume was 120 gallons total (pretty much just guestimated).

Anyhow, I used a dose of 3g of prohibit. That's approximately 2.7 grams of levamisole, enough to dose a 250gallon tank. So far, I do not see any ill effects. Fish were breathing heavy, but I left my skimmer on. The good news is within seconds of pouring it into my tank, I saw flat worms being released into the water column everywhere. They did not seem to be alive. I dosed about 30 minutes before my lights shut off for the night. I will update everyone with results tomorrow.

Interested to hear about your results Vinh. What made you decide on a double+ strength dfosage? Do you have any smooth-skinned acros (echinata, lokani, etc)? How did they fare? Did you try to suck out the AEFW, or do you have fish who were taking care of them?

Ok, heres an update on the situation. All the fish, shrimp, clams, and corals seem to being just fine. The only smooth skin I had in the tank was a granulosa. It seems to be doing just fine. I decided on doubling the dosage because I was reading some of the results on here, and it seems at the 5g per 300 gallons, the worms were only falling off but i remember it taking hours. I wanted something that would knock them out instantly.

I dropped some carbon back into the tank and I'm fixing to do a 30% wc today. Everything looks good at this point. I'll be doing another treatment in 5-6 days.

Interesting results. Did you skim during treatment, or turn your skimmer off-line? Did you siphon out the knocked-out AEFW or just leave them? Still waiting for my prohibit to come.

I've done a bit more experimenting with the vermisol as a dip, doubling and even tripling the recommended dosages on page 1, and dipping corals in these solutions. So far, I've had one branch on a lokani-type acro rtn, but that piece has been fighting maladies for awhile. In both cases (2x and 3x dosage), I did NOT see AEFW come off of any of my acros. But, when I turkey blasted, some worms did come off. IMO, Vermisol has a lower dosage of active ingredient than advertised. Can't wait to try the Prohibit, though.

I definitely saw increase in all algae types across the board with the Vermisol - green spot, GHA, and brown. Perhaps this may have been due to the added sugars (starch binder) of the tablets, as I did not see too much faunal die-off other thna some of the larger bristle worms and larger amphipods. Haven't received the Prohibit yet, but to answer your question more directly, I do not test PO4, sorry.

Fellas,
Did anyone have tested for PO4? I think with all this die offs Phosphate level should go up.

That is why I recomended siphoning the bottom, with a WC and changing GAC as well as fresh mechenical media (pads/socks). Even with this I saw a little ageal weirdness, but this too is passing.

You have to assume there will be some die off and manage your system for it.

I did not siphon out the aefws during treatment. I just let them float and my fish eat them. I also noticed a lot of dead bristle worms and bristle stars. I did a 30 gallon water change today.

Very informative thread! This is certainly a pest I hope not to encounter, but I'll surely keep this in mind if/when AEFW appear in my aquarium. Subscribed!

Second treatment using pure levamisole started about 3 hours ago.. Everything is looking pretty good.. Will update everyone once the treatment is over.. About to go baste some coral ;)

Well, in my case after a first treatment PO4 went up from 0.03 to 0.18ppm :(((( . My coral never liked GFO but i just put one cup in the bag. Normally i dose Prodibio with vinegar. I guess my system couldnt handle so much die offs. All my start fishes lardge and small are gone:(( i guess it was expected.
Second treatment due on thursday.

I to seem to have gotten some weird algae growth during this treatment process, but I only have two treatments left. I'm sure the algae will go away after the treatments are done. Still no signs of flatworms in weeks now so I'm thinking I may have gotten them. I haven't seen any eggs also so that is a good sign also.

MSHUR are you sure you did the correct dose? That sounds like an overdose to me.

Thats good news clown, I wouldn't worry much about the algae, that should be able to be taken care of easily.
