Lfs in so cal

Just a FYI, Jim's Exotic in El Segundo has built a nice new saltwater selection area. Looks as though he will be carrying higher end corals/frags/reef creatures. They are using some nice lighting with 6 bulb tek fixtures, par 38 bulbs, etc... Very clean store and the staff is friendly. It's not 100% complete yet but looks as though it should be up and running in the next couple of weeks.

lol jim has been working on that for a while. He says a couple weeks, every couple of weeks, I would say dont pop in for it for another two months when he has everything going. looking forward to seeing it once it does happen.

good to know. I wrote the shop off, nothing against Jim as he's always provided me good service and used to go there allot for FW, but because they focused more on FW and the casual SW customer. I'll check them out again.

Went by Jim's this afternoon to check out the new reef section and i was impressed. It was only about 50% stocked but he had some nice rareish stuff in there from pink elegance corals, to some gold aussie torch, and some peach/green torch among other things. Equipment-wise the setup is running a large SWC cone skimmer and he's got ATI Sunpowers in the back and has the AI LED's on order for the lower front tanks. That's gonna be awesome once its setup and for anyone interested in seeing the AI's in action can just swing by this shop once he gets em in. He even has some blue Par38 LED spotlamps mounted to the ceiling which were pretty neat as well.

It also seems like every time i come in, the cube reef tank in the front has a different LED fixture hanging above it each time. He carries like 4 different LED fixtures and i saw one this afternoon for the 1st time that had 4 10W white LED's and supplemented by a bunch of small 1W white and blues and it looked pretty good. Even better was that fixture didn't even need any fans. Those 10W LED's were freakin' bright and had good spread too. Anyone interested in buying an LED setup or even an ATI setup and has never seen one before should swing by this shop to check em out in person.

If i had a PAR meter i'd be in there doing some testing on those fixtures myself. :)

One thing that I figured I'd mention for those looking for live rock.
One thing I like about the Tat's tropical illusion store in Ventura is their live rock. It was decent price per lb (can't remember), and they gave you their display rock. Not crap in a bin..

Ecosystem Aquarium's new showroom in Laguna Hills. The tidepool tank in the far corner is very cool to watch. And the saltwater planted tank is neat too. This is a very different LFS than what most are used to, and the prices aren't too bad either. I took a video of the tidepool tank and will post it as soon as I figure out how.

I just got myself a sweet little platygyra colony there. Leng tends to have some very different corals than the ones I see at the other LFS's. for a nice vendor that always creates a positive experience when I go into the store.

Can you give an address? or PM me it. Thank you!

Stopped by Vivid earlier today. Always one of my favorites but had a noticeable flatworm breakout in their frag tanks. I know it's a common malady but didn't pick up anything because of it.

That places change so as the customer service.

Just a heads up, Jim's Exotic Fish in El Segundo (jimsexoticfish.com) just recently rebuilt their entire reef system and lined up a new distributor that's been supplying them with some AMAZING livestock lately. I can't say enough good things about this store, very friendly and knowledgable family run place.

Here's a few of the critters I've picked up from them over the past year

I just stopped by a new store that's supposed to be open by the 1st of August in Rancho Cucamonga. I can't wait. It'll be great for us IE people to not have to drive far to get our supplies/fish/frags and what not. The owner is really cool. Store's located on Foothill right by Victoria Gardens. The address is: 11940 Foothill Blvd. Suite 108, 91739. No sign on the store yet, but the name is Tropical Fish Store (sorry if I butchered the name).

Nice, this is down the street from my work. what plaza is this at?

Are you familiar with the plaza that's on the corner of Foothill and Rochester, the one with Chronic Tacos in it? I think his store is part of that plaza or if its a different one its in the middle of that plaza and Four Points Hotel.

Man I haven't been to Jim's in forever. I'll have to stop by when I'm in the area.

I work near reef hot spot and they have been closed for about four months now. Their website says they are closed for remodeling.

My little Gold mine.....

My little Gold mine.....

The BEST fish store in south Orange County is hands-down Capistrano REEF in San Juan Capistrano. Ron and Chris both own the store and are very knowledgeable and will always go out of their way to help. They have an awesome selection of corals, saltwater and freshwater fish. Caleb is always willing to help you find what you need and everyone there has patience and will answer all of your questions. If you find yourself traveling down south, its worth the stop. (camino capistrano exit) If they don't have it, they will get it for you with no hassles!!!!
