LFS says it is a baby RBTA

This was a hitch hiker on a Green Octo I bought from one of the really nice LFS in Houston. The guy who bagged the coral told me it was a RBTA. I'm not so sure. What do you think?

The first pic was after putting the coral in the tank. This little guy fell off so I stuck him to a rock where he stayed for a week - then disappeared. The tonight I was moving rock and it floated away and I caught him.

I'm not real sure I want to put it back in - but if it is a RBTA I will, It is a little smaller than a dime. The second pic if about a month later.

Seems silly to me to thing RBTA don't have babbies - they split. So I was thinking it could be a Majano or something. Then the tips bubble up and it looks like a RBTA.

It is about to go back into the DT.

Wrong,

BTA do spawn & planulate in the wild.

It's possible that it's an RBTA. If they "bud" or are injured so that a piece of the foot is left behind they can regenerate like that. The best way to tell is to let it grow.

Not to be the pessimist, but it looks like some sort of color morph on a mojano anemone?

Otherwise, I've honestly never seen a RBTA that small even after a split. It would have to be a spawn if it is a RBTA.

Well if it is a majano, I'd take it off your hands. I like majanos.

I used to grow them on purpose.

The guy at the LFS told me not to say anything since to owner would have charged me for it. The local reef cub really likes this store so I'm inclined to believe him, but better safe than sorry.

The little guy was attached to a Green Octo I bought - I'm sure it was in a tank that see tons of animals pass though, so could have come in from a spawning.

Majanos seem to have thinner / longer tentacles than RBTA (more beefy looking to me).

This just doesn't look like a Majano, but its size had me concerned.

bag it up ship it to me and in 6 months i will let you know what it is :lmao:
if it is one nice score but seriously if your going to toss it mail it me i will pay the shipping

majano ... almost 99% certain. Just try and eliminate it. I removed rocks, burned the site and scrape ... and 1 week later another one popped up inches away. Once they get into your rock, you have a battle on your hands. I know a 2 year old tank that was torn down because of these suckers.

From my experience mojanos are not that red in color, and I have quite a few in my tank. What you can do is maybe put it in the sump/refuge and see how it grows. It looks like it's too small to ID.
