I have a blue haddoni that I have had for a little over 2 years. I have kept it under T5, MH and DIY LED. It has been fine under all lighting once aclimated. I think part of the reason they need so much light is because they are on the bottom of the tank so the light has the most water to penetrate vs anywhere else in the tank.
That said, some people will tell you that you can do with a bit less light as long as you feed it regularly. Like I said, I have had mine for a little over 2 years and never fed mine. Granted it gets food that is floating around the water but no diect feeding. It has defiently grown and kept its colour over the time Ive had it. That all said, I have had it under strong lights from day 1.
6-3' t5s over a 24" dp tank
2-250W MH over 24" dp tank
144 LEDs over 24" dp tank
This is obviously just my opinion and experience.
