Lighting dilemma

I am upgrading to a trigon 350 which has T5's. I previously had a 190 and used a single 150 watt metal halide. The tank is only softies and fish. I am keen to not use the metal halide as it has no blue antics, and i would also quite like to keep the lid on the tank.

Do you think i would be silly to use T5's rather than the metal halide?

You could change the color of the metal halide bulb if you wanted blue. A 20 K bulb has a blue tint to it. No need for actinics.

Are the T-5's you are using High Output (HO) or normal output?

The HOs put out more light.

It's not silly to use T-5s.
