Lights... hit me...

Thats right he said 360w.. not the newer e model.
Didnt pick up on that. That would definitely be an older model if its not the e.
The numbers would be even better with the newer one.

The e model is 15% - 20% brighter, which are the ones that I have...and would be the ones anybody buying a360's now would have.

Sorry boys, but it was the A360W-E.

They don't sell the W and they have the review on the W-E page.

This thread is about the best light for the best result on a fixed budget.

You can keep dismissing BRS if you like. First you claimed they're only out to sell, even though they sell all technologies. Now you claim the measuring stick is your tank, like its a unique beast. A glass box is a glass box and the light will fall where it falls, it wont matter a hoot if its in your home or mine.

The 4 bulb ATI Sunpower averaged 172 at 12" and 158 at 18".

The 8 bulb ATI Sunpower averaged 334 at 12" and 310 at 18".

Note there is hardly any change in PAR regardless of depth or height the fixture is hung at. An even blanket of light with excellent penetration.

Recommendation: 6 bulb ATI Sunpower.

Lets compare Radions and ATI T5 spread at a depth of 12".

Radion XR30 G4 Pro - $799
ATI 48" 8 bulb - $541

Covering a 8ft tank you need two ATI Sunpower at $1081 and four Radions at $3196, assuming you are willing to have every second foot of your tank at half the PAR (as per PAR measurement at 12" in BRS testing). Break even after 6.6 years of bulb changes.

Or, you could go the Hydra 52 HD rout at $600 each. Need four of those over an 8ft, that's $2400. Break even after 4.1 years of bulb changes.
Thanks, this is more useful than the last 100 posts put together!

With my intended use of evergrow black boxes I would achieve a more even spread of light and a quicker break even time due to lower initial cost. Tbh I'm happy with 6 years... this was all about running leds for savings over time and the timescale I'm using is 10 years.

Really appreciate the info.

Dare I start this thread up again? I've been online researching again... getting close to pulling the trigger on the evergrows. Then I stumble across LedZeal Malibu lights... some nice reviews online and you can customise from the beginning. Anyone got any experience or thoughts on these? I'm looking at the S300 model, starting with 2 of them, will likely need 4 eventually. Cheers...

That's beautiful. The A360 does not have the punch to get it done, its pitch black darkness 6" to the side of center. The AP700 shreds it.

Perfect illustration of what we have been saying for pages now. Regardless of price, LED simply cannot distribute light like a bulb and reflector does. This is why those that grow SPS tanks will have T5, or are installing T5s to compensate for the gaps in the LED technology.

104 of 106 years of experience turn to T5.

As was said in a previous page, Chinese fixtures another beast in a totally different price bracket. I used them when I first started and they grow quite well, but just have limitations.

Ledzeal has a new series, the Zeus. A little less power and no cooling fans. I bought 3 of them for over my 300dd and the come in today. We will see...

I assume a bit cheaper too? Be great to hear how you get on with them.

Can you all post pictures of your tanks? Everyone is so opinionated. I just want to see where everyone is coming from. I've seen Potatohead's tank and I don't know why he's arguing tooth and nail on this subject.

Here's the tank which started the whole debate... desperately in need of lighting upgrade... good example of the lack of spread of led though.

Hence my want now to avoid the puck style lights and go for something with a more even layout, even if that causes a little disco effect.

lol

Pot calling the kettle black? I don't see any pics of yours floating around here. Let's see this masterpiece. Kind of lame to call someone out when their current tank is seven months old. Most great SPS tanks are many years old. Unfortunately I don't have any pics of my old tank since Photobucket went sideways. I may on my old computer.

My opinion is based on my own experience but also on seeing a couple dozen very nice SPS tanks in person and taking note of lighting among many other factors. Only one of these tanks was full LED, at least in this area the vast majority of SPS tanks are T5. It's not close. It may vary by region since we are not too concerned about adding heat to the water here.

Here is my 4'x8'x24" tall 480G display under 6 Mitras LX7206's with some Kessil 360's mixed in to fill in the gaps as I need a couple more Mitras to cover the tank properly. The tank is packed end to end with corals that are literally growing out of the water. I've got SPS, LPS and Softies in the tank. Pretty much everything

I have no idea why you keep pushing t5 on him. He said he wanted LED. Are you on some kind of mission or something?

And I'd LOVE to see a pic of your great t5 masterpiece...do you have it posted anywhere?

You don't seem to get along with many folks in this thread..just an observation.

slief's tank is 100% led btw.
