Don1.jpg

He is a two year old Vlamangi Tang, reportedly about 10" long... said to be non-agressive and reef safe in his current home, which he has outgrown...

We should be getting this boy today... "special delivery" - will post pics of acclimation process...

I'm wiring the frag tank lights at this very moment... pictures later.

Frag tank light build

Frag tank light build

Here is a support frame that I built to hold the lights for the frag tank. No hanging frame here, as the tank is under the DT ligh rack when it is pushed back for maintenance:

After work yesterday, I threw together a frame out of 1" square aluminum tubing to hold the T5s. This morning, I started to assemble the Reefgeeks.com retro kits onto the frame.

Placed the ballasts at the back of the rack, as I did with the DT lighting:

After assembling the retro kits, I placed the rack onto the support to assure that it fit. I also tried out a roller, but did not like the way it worked...in fact, for the person watching on the webcam, I dropped the $%#@& thing into the tank while I was messing with it... so I scrapped the idea of rollers for the time being- will just slide the slights back and forth if needed.

You can see why it would be impossible to hang these lights... that is the DT light rack rolled back for some Staurday morning cleaning on the display:

Lights the left, lights to the right... into the valley... oh never mind.

These are the frag tank lights with just a pair of ATI Blue Plus bulbs:

I think this photo is with the UVL white burning...

I'll take some pictures of just the frag tank lights tonight after the DT lights turn off...

We'll see if I need to lower the rack to make SPS happy.

LL i noticed you have a led light

LL i noticed you have a led light

I saw the led light you have with your display T5s the one in the middle .
What is that light used for?
for night or for day light.
I was thinking about getting some of the long led light but didnt know how they are does it add shimmer? or par to the tank

Those are a pair of 48" stripped down R2 Moonlights...only used for nocturnal lighting. It definitely causes shimmer in the nighttime waters of the tank. No par value; purely asthetics...

Did the fish come in today????

I haven't heard from the owner - he was having a little trouble getting him in the net last I heard...

I'm being patient... Don't want to overstress the big guy... :)

Lookin' good, George! I really like the light frame you made for the frag tank. That one pic with all the lights on and the DT light rack rolled back looks like a corner of Area 51. :D

i think you need to build a new room on the house for the treadmill. your fish rooms getting crowded lol

Problem is the treadmill won't fit through either door in the fish room. I'd have to take it apart to get it out... I don't mind it being there...and the Kitty Litter Robot is a concession with Ms. LL...

All's good.

What if you were to use rails for an overhead garage door mounted to the ceiling and have a cable system with pulleys attached to the rollers for raising and lowering he lights? (or something of that nature?) Just an idea.

The problem is that my display tank lights (already on a rail) are above the frag tank... unless I use the mythical "sky hook", there is no way I could suspend something from the ceiling as it would collide with the display lights when they are rolled back for maintenance, like this:
FTL06.jpg

... I decided to just keep it simple (KISS) and use side supports attached to the stand...

Thanks for stopping by the thread. Please come back often.

Man I bet that feels like an Arizona day in the desert when you roll back all those lights over the little frag tank.

These guys need polarized shades..:smokin:
