Lightsluvr's 340G Upgrade

I'm assuming, since it all you posted about, they are the only things you have noticed that have changed.

Because they are so inflated by water, they are the first to show signs of any stress. Have you checked for anything odd like metals or heater malfuction? Anything that could be different from the water change yesterday?

I think that a heater malfunction would cause a reaction from my ground probes and/or GFCI circuits...

As for water, did the usual post-water change tests:

ALK - 11.2
CA - 410
MG - 1380
SG - 35ppt
ORP - 380
pH - 8.29

Plus a couple extras:

PO4 - <.20
IO - .03

Wish I could offer any ideas on the frogspawn, I am stumped. However if all else is normal and you start fragging at $200 a head I'll take one!

you still dosing the ich control?

No I haven't dosed in over a week. The containers says, "not harmful to fish or coral", and "completely biodegradable in 4-5 days"... In fact I have done (2) 65G water changes since the color "miracle"... :o

We shall see... of course there is no way to absolutely prove the No-Ich was the cause of the color change. I like the color... :o ...just hoping it's not a sign of the "end times" for the frogspawn...

Let's think of some clever names for it...like the lightsluvr nuclear spawn...or the chernobyl mint julep (limited edition). :celeb3:

I guess it may be worth posting before and after pics in the LPS forum.

I'm used to frogspawn receeding head by head when they are in trouble, not going glow lite.

Decisions, decisions...

Decisions, decisions...

Here is the current skimmer...

So, do I add this collection cup on steroids from Reef Specialty.com:
Pro250cup.jpg

Pro250cup3.jpg

Pro250cup2.jpg

Or go to "new heights" ( six feet tall) in a completely different direction?

" LifeReef VS3-72
(6 feet tall) 1500 gallons+
1200-2500 gph
Larger pumps can
also be used. 12 x 19
or 12 x 12 if the Mazzei venturi is mounted vertically off the pump.
Can be installed in the following setups:
Conventional
Counter-current
Re-Circulation/Conventional-current
Re-Circulation/Counter-Current"

Any suggestions? I posted a thread on the filtration-equipment section asking for feedback on the VS3-72, but no responses yet...

I have the pro cup on my 250 with the upgraded needlewheel and the difference is without a doubt, night and day.

That's been my experience as well...

Here is the original color of the coral...before the skeleton split into two pieces almost 2 years ago:

I would defenitely post in LPS forum.

You know I loved my lifereef skimmer. There is no skimmer easier to dial in.

I received feedback from the local reefer who is selling one. From what I understand, there is no way I could feed the skimmer from my overflow. Is that correct? He says it needs 1200+ gph just to feed the skimmer? I thought the 1200-2500 gph was to feed the Mazzei Venturi (to create the bubbles)... I guess I don't understand how this thing works. It's hard to believe that a skimmer would work with 1200 gph water being pushed through it.

Do you know anyone who has a VS3 manual that could be e-mailed? Jeff was going to fax me a manual, but I guess he got busy and forgot.

I love those cone skimmers...it's the price tag that scares the heck out of me...:D

P.S. - What part of LI are you? My daughter lives close to the West Islip airport... don't ask me to pronounce or spell the name of the town...

If you buy rite the first time you only cry once.

I ran mine with a little giant pump through the Venturi. The more gph, the more air it pulls into the skimmer. Why couldn't you hook your overflow up to the pump and dial the pump back to match the overflow?

Option 2: Hook the pump up to the sump like I had it-- the hole is already there. Since the Life reef will take water from as many as 4 ports, run the pump through the venturi and run the overflow through the downdraft or other port.

The guy we talked about should have a manual.

The new VS3-72 comes with a Blueline 40-HD-X (external) pump - one of my favorite little pumps by the way...

How does the skimmer take water from multiple ports? That's interesting. Cheesh, I wish I could get a look at a manual...

The guy we discussed has a manual but no scanner or fax.

For down draft there is a port near the top of the skimmer. It's easy to see in the pic. Look at the piece of white angle pvc in the tall tube.

All the other ports are in the black acrylic base. They are easy to hook up. Call if you want to talk about it.
