George,

Do you heat the water in you change water tank?

No. The Blueline 40HD-X pump keeps it at a tepid 78-82 degrees. After I add the salt mix, it circulates constantly until ready to be used...

The RO/DI is like a dead body; it just assumes room temperature.

It helps that neither tank is resting on a concrete floor.

Possible addition to the tank:

Here is a possible addition to the tank...

He is a two year old Vlamangi Tang, reportedly about 10" long... said to be non-agressive and reef safe in his current home, which he has outgrown...

Whaddya think?

Getting hungry George?

Looks warm in the fish room working on the brace for the lights for the frag tank.....

FME, some things don't like the par from T5's. You may want to allow for a dark corner or leave off a row or have screen over a corner or what ever.

Looks like fun.

I wondered who was looking... I noticed the lens moving back and forth...

It was warm outside where I was cutting aluminum... ;)

The 4x24W will cover about 12-16" of the 24" tank. I can start coral on the edges and work them toward the center. In addition, the light frame will slide front and back on the framework I built this afternoon... Gives me a little additional flexibility.

brace

brace

I looked at your webcam on home monitor this morning (monitor at work is old and sucks). The alum braces (looked like wood at work) are very clean. Look very nice. So the frag tank will look like a chip off the main tank:p

The vertical pieces are left over from the light rack. Waste not want not... ;)

I have a set of rollers I'm going to test when I get the retro kits measurements. The lights should roll back and forth several inches for maintenance, etc. We'll see.

Awesome setup and thread!

Thanks!

Stop by often... we're always doing something new...

Next project (after the frag tank lights) is installing and tweaking a Life Reef LRC-2 Calcium Reactor.

George...22 days before day 60 of my build and you were right when you said it can be overwhelming at times, I thought you were gonna slow down a bit but you're still going, and I imagine there's many more mini projects on your list:) It's funny because keeping up with your thread is only making my list longer:lol: Everything in your tank should take off once you get that reactor online, are you planning on running a Kalk stirrer to offset the lowering of your PH?

I wonder if I'll be pumping by day 60:p

Shane.

Shane.

I bet you'll be pumping by day 60! ;)

I've had the used LRC-2 CA Reactor since the beginning...I just wanted to get my CA and ALK dialed in just right before putting it online.

I dose kalkwasser with a Tunze Osmolator / Calcium dispenser. No need for a stirrer, but I sure need to add Kalk regularly to the Tunze dispenser. It goes through Kalk like there's no tomorrow...probably because the system evaporates about 5-6 gallons a day...

I am fairly happy with my pH - it dips to 7.9 - 8.01 at night, but climbs back to 8.35 just before lights out... It should bump up a little more as I buffer RO/DI to bring my ALK up slowly...

That's the theory... I learn something new every day.

LL

Gotcha...^^...You should be good to go then, plus with the help of the Apex it'll be really easy to tell if you need more buffer once you begin dosing the effluent.

How are the frags in the frag tank coming along with that small PC fixture? You did say you had a small SPS frag in there...I imagine it must be ****ed!

let there be light

let there be light

I see a box o' tools has appeared in the fish room....

does that mean the light kit for frag tank is in?
