this I can vouch for! Every time I've been to George's I've only noticed the cats because they're always up to something around the tanks. It's funny because my birds are always doing the same thing. They love sitting on the stand's door and looking in at the yellow watchman goby. No cats for the Perry household though, we're all birds (two of them) and fish. the doberman will come later :)

Strangely enough, I haven't been able to find a picture... it was the Current USA fixture... 72" 3x250W MH with T5 supplement and moonlights. Their model 1079,
I think.

We have three of the littermaids and two of the robots. The three littermaids are mounted on these stands, so we only have to empty the containers once a week:

A little baking soda in the 13G bags, and we have no odor issues.

PAR Readings

PAR Readings

I finally tie-wrapped my PAR Meter to a long-handled scraper tool, in order to make measurements of PAR under the full T5s.

There is some room for error in the measurements, as flow from the closed loop caused the scraper to move from straight vertical occasionally. Later, I'll repeat the test with the pumps off...the fish were spooked enough that I didn't want to stress them unnecessarily.

The numbers are PAR at the approximate locations in the photo.

At about an inch below the surface, I am getting PAR readings in excess of 400.

ok on par im still alittle uneducated
im still used to wattage per gallon but i know this is outdated
what are the best par readings you go for for TOP,MID TOP,MIDDLE,LOWER AND BOTTOM

All I know about PAR readings...

PAR stands for "Photo-synthetically Active Radiation". PAR is a classification of light also known as Micro Moles per second per square meter.

PAR meters measure photons in the usable spectrum in the range of 400-700 nano meters. The 400-700nm is believed to be the optimal wavelength/color range aquaria. PAR meters count the Photons striking a surface per unit of time.

I have been told that 200-300 micro moles is sufficient for most SPS corals.. Non-photosynthetic coral require much less PAR.

Many corals will adapt to various PAR numbers. By observing growth on coral under certain light ranges, you can map areas of the tank that your various coral thrive under and move them accordingly.

Now I would hope that some real PAR experts will chime in...

well i would say from the looks of your coral the par readings you have is a good reading to shoot for
what is the par readings on the substrate?
and again what is the height of your tank i know that par has to do with the height not really the volume

The tank is 25.5" deep. The water line is approximately .5" below the Euro-bracing.

PAR readings right at the 1" deep sand bed along the front of the tank are around 100. The sand bed is 2-3" deep toward the center of the tank, thanks to a busy Diamond Watchman
Goby :hammer: The center of the tank is also under higher PAR t5 bulbs...those numbers reach 150-170 at the sand bed.

great build and i just finished reading everything!

btw- you might laugh at this but the only thing i learned throughout this whole build was smoking meat.... i went out last weekend and saw a personal smoker... then i remembered ur thread so i invested in one... hahahhaha

First, thanks for reading the entire thread! And a special thanks for leaving a "signature" post!

I know you will enjoy your smoker. We love our Smokin' Tex brand, and the Cook Shack is also a great product. Just add 4-5 ounces of hickory and you can smoke spare ribs in 5-6 hours, or a whole brisket in 12 hours...flavor to die for! :bounce3:

It would have been sometime around June 20th (in part I of the thread), because that's when I smoked spare ribs for all the guys and gals from the COMAS club who helped moved the tank and stand... :bounce1:

look for the pics of us lugging the big arse tank over the fence with thorny bushes and through the itty-bitty window (Okay, it wasn't THAT bad, and we were rewarded with barley pop at 10am!) and you'll be within a page or 2. That was some good meat!

Speaking of good food...I just brought home a point of foie gras and 6 duck breasts from my restaurant. There are perks to working at a fine dining joint. i paid our cost for the meat and have some OUTSTANDING product to whip up. foie gras...mmmmmm
