Lion / Starfish / Urchin compatible?

Actually, based on the sparse pattern, that lion looks to be P. russelii. Are there spots on its second dorsal, anal, and caudal fins? If they're clear, it's a Russel's.

JoAnn, sorry for the very long delay in a response, the fish in my avatar is a fuzzy dwarf. As well as a Leaf fish but assuming you were talking about the lion.

Ashton, yes I was talking about the lion :) very pretty colors!

Greg, I believe they are spotted. I will try to get a better pic this eve. I took the last pic with my phone.

I wasn't thinking when I picked him up yesterday, we were having tornados and bad storms, and I had just got out of school, needless to say my brain was not in the right place. I just watched him for a while to make sure he was healthy and left. I guess I just assumed I would have received what I ordered! It was the first time I had a fish ordered especially for me. At least I will know for next time. I guess I can let him grow out some and sell him. Oh, I guess I should clarify that the person that ordered him does not normally deal with Lions so he did not really know either.

The problem is that scorps are one of the most mis-ID'd families of fish out there. I went back and looked really closely at your pic with a glass, and I think I can see spots on its tail.

Sorry, my cam batt was dead last night. I'm going to try to get some more pics shortly, but he definitely has spots. Oh well, I will just grow him out a bit (since he's teeny tiny for a Volitans) and re sell him. :( :fun5:

Our volitans used to be pretty tiny (once upon a time)...

Check out the thermometer for scale:

Yeah, this one is a tiny bit smaller I believe. He likes sitting at the bottom of the tank so I can't get a pic with the thermometer lol.
Any tips on what to feed him at this size? Tried some froz Rod's Predator formula, he didn't care for it too much because I just threw in a couple of pieces. Guess I need something to dangle them?

Hey, we're all nerds! ( Though some people won't come out and admit it like me :) )Congrats on both of the new guys. The lion looks like a Volitans to me. I think believe I saw the spots....
The eel is nice, I've been looking at some little Snowflake eels around here...I've just heard too many stories of eels biting the hand that feeds.
Again congrats, the two are too cute!

Love the videos.

An eel /lionfish tank is a dream tank of mine. For now I have a freshwater eel and he's the coolest fish I have ever had.

Thanks!!! :)

He was kept in a very short in height tank (was large but short) I think he is really enjoying being in a taller tank, for sure. I got one of those clear feeding sticks, he is pretty much eating anything I put in there... Mysis, Silversides, and got some Rod's Predator formula... he is a piggie!! So far the Lion will only eat Mysis and I can't get him to eat off the stick yet.

The lion won't eat silversides?! Mine gobbles those guys down. Have you tried them on a stick, then get his attention with them. If you loose it move away then back in and regain his attention. That is what I was told and it worked like a charm. Took a couple days at most.

Yeah, I tried exactly that several times. Even tried it again after I got senor Eel fed this eve. I think because he is so tiny he likes the itty bitty Mysis shrimps in the cube that I feed the fish in my reef tank. I've been monitoring his eating very close since he is so little and so new. He ate really good this eve though.
