Live Aquaria c/b Latezonatus?

Did LA breed Latz clowns recently?

Yes, I've read that they have their own spawning pair. The "DFS" in the title is Doctors Foster and Smith, which indicates that they bred the fish themselves. I believe their young captive-bred banggai cardinals also have that label when they sell them, as well as any corals that they have named themselves. :)

What a disservice to captive breeding efforts

Talk about a cull!!! And someone bought it!

Kinda like a dog breeder selling a dog with three legs... and just as ugly. I don't know what kind of "brand" DFS is trying to create, but I sure wouldn't want to put MY name on fish that looked like that!

Oh good. Glad I'm not the only one who had that sentiment. I can't believe someone actually paid for those things. Inbreeding at its finest (or worst).

That fish is not a result of inbreeding. Improper enrichments/cutting corners on enrichments is most likely the cause. You hear "inbreeding" a lot as a cause of deformities. I am pretty sure in most cases it is human error, not fish genetics.

Marina

Marina

I agree with marina either dirty water or a lack of something in their diet.

My akinydnos pair had a couple juvis like this when they first started to lay clutches but with more practice and better water and food i stopped that.

Okay then I stand corrected; let's say poor husbandry at its finest then. Seems to be more common. One the LFSs here gets designers in and almost all of them have the "squish" face.

You know it has to be just a fad that will probably fade in time. I'm actually setting up for my second breeding pair and all I'm looking for is a nice pair of true percs, not designers. Its like with any collector's item: It's only worth what people are willing to pay.

I really wish that more breeders would do their homework and learn about different enrichment options for rotifers. Look at www.rotifer.com - there are so many products available from Reed's. There are examples of scientific analysis of food qualities, rotifer profiles - read that, stop just pouring nano in your cultures and then feed that to the babies. Stop cutting corners and producing deformed freaks.

One of the many positives of this forum (and DFS) is that you can be certain that DFS has read this thread and will likely make corrections. Maybe Race or Kevin will even chime in.

I am a big fan of DFS. Just the other day I was showing my wild SPS colonies from DD on one of the threads. But when a lemon is lemon - I am going to say that bluntly.

I'm going to agree with all of you above. Why buy a misbarred Latz when the wideband is what is so unique about this fish? I have no clue why someone would buy these when you could get perfect latz out of Hawaii.
