Live Rock

Jeremy,

I'm in love with this rock but have a couple questions.
I've been trying to determine how porous this LR is?
I have a 22g Long CADLights setup. I am going for a Mixed Reef look but I AM NOT looking to stack this tank full of rock. I know thats vague but how many lbs do you think I should pick up from you guys on Monday?

The Uncured Rock - Would you suggest curing it outside the tank in a Rubbermaid prior to cycling the tank with it? Or is this stuff generally safe to where I could get away with a 15 minute high saline dip of 1.030 for bad hitchhikers and then place directly into the new tank to cure/cycle?

Finally, if you can or have time I would love to see a pic of the current batch- NP if your too busy. I'm gonna be placing the order Monday of next week with you guys so your help is much appreciated!
Thank u sir!

Hi,

Our current batch of Manado is much more bigger branches of rock this time around. They collected from a different area of the islands, and it's more like the old Tonga Branch this week. Having said that, it still has much nicer structure, and more caves and holes - extra fingers, than what that old Tonga branch rock had.

I would personally cure the rock right in your tank. This is a very clean rock when it comes in, not a lot of deep, decaying sponge and plant life on it, so you should be just fine without the rubbermaids. As far as hitchhikers go, you can do a dip, or just not worry about it - personal preference.

Thanks,
Jeremy

Jeremy, how much would you recommend for a new tank setup

120 gallon, 4'x2'x2'? I would want a nice full look but want to have plenty of caves and open space for fish. I am new to saltwater so I can't get a good idea of how many pounds of rock I should save for.

I live in St. Louis, so would it make more sense for me to drive the 4 hours and pick up on store or to ship when it comes time to purchase rock? Thanks for your help

It's up to you on whether you would want to make the trip over to hand pick the rock or not. You are in a 1-day zone for shipping, so it will be inexpensive and get to you the next day. However, if you're set on hand picking the drive over might be worth it.

I'd suggest going with right at 120 - 130lbs from the sound of what you're wanting. This will not fill the tank up, but at the same time not be too open either. You can then always add a little more, or take a little out as needed.
