Long Island LFS information list

Tom,
It's funny you mentioned that. We were just talking about his setup in Valley Stream. I'll tell him you said hello.

He opened a full wholesale outfit in Massepequa after that for a short while. Took over Wheelin Willy's place on Broadway. It closed after another (evil) company stepped in and forced him to close. That was about 9 years ago.

What does everybody think of Brian's in Rocky Point? Its the only fish store I've ever gone to so i don't know what its like compared to other LFS.

IMO you have Aqua Hut & Petswarehouse.com.

Not necessarily in that order. The others are small or inconsistent or worse high priced (CC)

For what they have, its ok. Brian's seems to always have healthy fish of the most popular types, and decent prices, just not a big selection. Yesteray they had firefish for 11.99, purple firefish for 20, yellow tangs of various sizes 19.99-49.99, etcetera.

I can get it for you, but you have to have a business license to purchase animals from him. Or at least that's how it's supposed to work...

Does your incorporation say anything about buying or selling tropical fish? If your incorporation was for programming software, he would probably not let you in.

Yet, it also depends on who you know.;)

So what you're trying to do here is deceive a wholesaler that your a dealer.

Why? just to save a few bucks.

Maybe you can't afford to be in this hobby, get a smaller tank.

This is like stopping the Boars Head truck outside the deli at lunch time.

This is really an under handed plan on your part.

Bigsink, let us know where you teach, I want to make sure my 2 kids aren't in your class.

Actually my only reason would be that they usually move alot of stuff so the choices would be better. Most local stores have slim pickens as far as corals. Or colorless ones anyway.I've bought whole sale before and its rediculous how much they jack up the price but there is always overhead. And it must cost me $300/month at least to run my tanks
My incorporation just has my name no indication of what I do.

It's not worth it.
I have an incorporation to buy and sell corals and fish for my Aquarium Maint business. I rarely go to Steve, unless I am buying a lot of animals. He carries a lot of the pet store staples, Damsels, shrimp, clowns... Yet, they do get a lot of nice large angels and large tangs, though.

They don't get a lot of great corals in, I used to use a jobber in LA for that.;)

Brian's has a minimal selection, but OK prices (17.99 for a false percula, 12.99 for a 6-line wrasse). However, he keeps his tanks at a very low SG! I bought fish from him last weekend, and it was a good thing I checked the specific gravity of the bags the fish were in - it was just below 1.018.

Aquahut is great for supplies, but I personally think their livestock leaves a lot to be desired. I have never been in that store without seeing dead or dieing fish in multiple tanks. I've also noticed they've had kind of an attitude lately towards new customers too.

Suffolk Fish and Reef in Ronkonkoma isn't bad, but their prices are steep. Country Critters in Patchogue has a nice selection of corals, but their fish selection is variable.

I will have to back up what has been said. You will not find the amazing corals you are imagining at a wholesaler on LI. and unless you have a storefront you get last pick of everything (which is pretty much what you wouldn't even take a second glance at and a lfs). LFS will cost a few bucks more but its worth it.

Yeah I wasn't really going to pursue it any way I'm so friggin busy the only way I get corals is a box delivered to me. I know a few good stores but there all a haul for me. There is nothing here on the north shore. Everything is on the south shore or out east even PW is a 45-55 min ride. I guess I'm isolated.
But If Brian B does it in his basement again thats where I'll go !

hello all. I have been getting frags from Suffolk Reef for my nano's. Just wondering if theres any other place that sells frags? I've been to so many places just to find giant expensive corals. Thanks
