Long tentacle anemone killing Xenia?

Yesterday I got a Long tentacle anemone, and added it to my tank, today, my Xenia which looked perfectly healthy yesterday, is all but dead.. its shriveling up and there are holes showing at its base. Now I have seen pictures of huge Xenia patches right above anemones in aquariums before, so i'm curious what could be going on. I made sure the anemone didn't touch any corals on its way in, and it is a good distance away from everything. I know some chemicals can be released into the water, but i figured this was a non issue considering i have seen them in the same tank before. Also my other corals seem to be doing just as well as they were before the anemone was introduced.. any ideas?

Nems will sting and kill most corals, pretty much the nem will always win, so I keep a buffer zone from them and corals, but the one coral I don't really worry about is zenia.
They seem to be able to take a sting, or adapt.
Most likely the zenia will recede a bit, shrivel on contact, but still survive/thrive.

Ok, maybe something else is going on then. As I said there was no physical contact between the anemone and any of my corals. But my Xenia looks BAD :(. as you can see in the attached pics they are nowhere near each other in the aquarium. My lone Xenia is in the far right of the pic, anemone in the far left. The Xenia looks like it is still fighting though, so maybe it will pull through!

Ah, gotcha(pics do wonders)
Some people have luck w/ zenia, many will even call it a weed, and some don't have good luck, and often it is dismissed as having a tank too clean/nutrient free for it to do well.
I suppose it is possible there could be allapothy(SP?) or chemical warfare going on, especially since new nem has been disturbed.
Many run carbon when keeping nems to help minimalize the possibility of that.

Not sure if it is related but I had a stalk do about the same thing but not as bad. It happened right after i put my lta in and they are no where near each other in the tank. Oddly the larger stalk did not seemed bothered at all but my smaller stalk shriveled up. After about a week it recovered back to it's normal self.

That thing will spread like the plague. It's the only coral i try to get rid of on a regular basis.

Thanks for the replies! Im hoping it will pull through, it seems to still be trying to extend and such, so hopefully it will adapt and come back.

davocean, I have heard about xenia just not living in some tanks, and being fine in others. However, mine has been in my aquarium for ~2 months and has been healthy and growing (though not splitting off to form more) and then all of a sudden the anemone was added and over night it looked like it was hating life.

I guess only time will tell! I'm just glad I didnt make a mistake and put the wrong things together. I was worried the response was going to be "no way those 2 can be in the same aquarium together!"

Nah, I actually purposely placed zenia around my LTA and Sebae because they were the only thing that could survive the stings and fill in the space around them.
The zenia would just not grow towards the nems, and I had huge zenia at one time, actually got tired of constantly culling it back.

Help

Help

This is my first post and figured i would post on this old thread and hopefully get a response. My long tentacle anemone just moved and is literally touching some of my Xenia... im really worried that it may kill my Xenia... should I cut the rock and save the Xenia or should I not worry?

Thanks in advance

I wouldn't worry. I purposely killed off my xenia because it spread like a week to cover everything in my tank. It looks like only the xenia that is touching the anemone is affected and I bet that will even recover in time.
