Hood lift details

Hood lift details

The hood does make feeding and working on this size of tank much easier, without it I probably would not proceed with the project.

I can't mention none sponsor vendor, I purchased the hood lift kit from P-A that included a pair of actuators rated at 150 lbs each, power supply and a controller with remote for 500 +. You can purchase the actuators from anywhere.

The actuators are small part of lift. A pair of actuators make it easier to balance the corners and distribute the weight especially for 8 ft length. You can go with one but the point contact and framing has to be stronger to lift and much bigger actuator.

The challenge is to build a right angle structure to hold the weight in a slideable enclosure or rail. This I went with slideable wood structure box and 15 series extrude aluminum beam. Extrude aluminum is major part of making strong structure without welding or you can opt for welding.

Total weight of my hood is near 120lbs, 65 lbs for wood and structure, 55 lbs for light component, 8 aluminum heat sinks.
