Looking for a reef safe angelfish?

I've kept many angelfish in the past and I've had mixed success... I final decided to go with these and they haven't let me down.

What angelfish do you keep in a reef tank?

I've got a flagfin(A. trimaculatus), small Red Sea Regal and a genicanthus melanospilos

Cherub Angel. He use to nip at SPS but I didn't keep any for about 6 months after he ate them like candy. I have put some in over the last two weeks and so far he's not interested. He's nipped a couple of times but not wanting to eat them like he previously did. SPS was the only corals he did this with. Won't touch leathers or LPS. Cherub Angels are said to be one of the most "reef safe" angels. But Coral Beauties and Flame Angels are also known to be relatively safe. They're all a crap shoot.

Had a flame angel (until this morning) and it just would not leave the softies and LPS alone. Equal opportunity hits on all of them till most would not extend any more. I trapped him this morning and moved him to the QT tank. A gorgeous fish, but now I need to find a new home for it. As most people say, it really is up to the individual fish. I missed on this flame angel, but many others have other results.

Most if not all are listed on LiveAquaria as Reef Safe "with caution" and say they are prone to nip at stony and soft corals. Many seem to want to nip corals and some decide corals are a thing and start to chow down. I would love to have a flame or a coral beauty but I think its a risk if you are going to have corals so I dont think it is a good idea.

I've had multiple Potters Angels throughout my reefing history and all have been very good citizens. Maybe the occasional nipping but nothing noticeable.

I did have a multifasciata that loved sps polyps.

Used to have a coral beauty, but he/she developed a taste for my acans so it had to go. Was a nice fish prior to that. Always out and about and took any/all foods offered.

Here is my little convict. His first night in solitary, until a new home is found. He just looks so innocent... like "who me?".

My computer is old and slow so I can't see your fish...what kind of angel is it?

I would either get a flame , or coral beauty angelfish . I haven't ever had problems with either of these

+1 on cherub angel, small but cute and active with personality...Though not guerenteed. Mine has not bothered any coral but i keep my fish well fed

I've had a cherub angel for 6 months that hasn't touched a coral in my 36 gallon tank.

They are so darned cute.

I'm watching this thread with great interest to get some ideas for larger angels that are also reef safe as my 180 gallon build is just about ready to get started.

Had a coral beauty for years and never picked at anything. My current angel is a flame angel and picks at some softies. I got rid of the softies it picks on and replaced them with others. So far so good.
