Lost my 6 Halequin Tusk to the Gigantea

I just lost my gorgeous HT to my Gigantea two nights ago.
What happened was a spawn event in my tank. My large Red Haddoni decided the spawned as the light about to turn out. He is huge and the tank was all milky and he still dump out sperm. I always have about 50 gal of premixed salt water handy, so I waited until he finish and start to do a water change. I was busy and did not get to it until late at night. I almost never turn on the light at night. I don't do anything to the tank when I change water, just pump water out from the sump and pump new water in to the sump.
I was working away behind the tank when I start to have water splashing on me from the tank so I climb up the ladder to see what is wrong. The HT normal fast as sleep behind the rock at his time of the night was swimming in circle. I think the light spooked him and he got sting by one of my carpet. I went to get a net to try to get him out to put him on my QT tank to let him either recover or died in there.
Once I got the net, 30 seconds later at the most, all I can find is his tail sticking out of on of my Gigantea. This disappeared in 15 seconds or so.:(:(
His bone came out last night. All clean. These carpets can eat big fish.
RIP my beautiful Australian Harlequin Tusk

Introduced a yellow watchman goby and shrimp pair last night. Ywg swam straight into my haddoni. I instantly reached in and pulled him out but he was severly battered looking. He disappeared into the rockwork and i haven't seen him since.

Such a sad story. I feel your pain. I lost a flame hawk to my gig.

My wife has a special connection to flame hawks. Years ago when we were dating, I picked her up after going to a fish store. I had a newly purchased flame hawk sitting on the passenger seat -- which my wife (girlfriend at the time) didn't see -- and she promptly sat on it. The bag popped and water splashed all over the car. We quickly rushed back to my apartment and fortunately the hawk made it into my tank. But ever since I vowed to have a flame hawk in any tank that I had.

Man that stinks. Not near the loss you had but check this out.

*scans down future stocking list*
*looking,looking,looking*
"Ah here it is!"
*scribbles "all the nopes" next to gig*

No problem with them for a long time. I think turn on the light at night and leave it on for a long time was what kill my Tusk. The fishes are all in the tank with these carpets for a long time with no problem.
