In the tank I have:
1 Naso Tang
3 Yellow Tangs
1 Kole Tang
1 Blue Tang
1 Fox Face
1 Copperband Butterfly
1 Blue Devil Damsel
4 Lyetrail Anthais(1 male, 3 female)

I have never seen the fish fight each other.
The big blue tang may give chase from time to time, but never anything serious. The Blue tang, Fox Face and Damsel were from the prior 120gl tank. Naso and Anthasis were added soon after. The 3 yellow tangs and kole were introduced all at once.

Ok now its time to talk about the "Algae".

The huge outbreak of algae occured a couple years back when the eastern and midwest had the large power outage. The tank was supplied with air, but took over. There must have been a great excess of Co2 for the algae to explode.

the very first thing I did was remove all of the rockwork and began the long process of scrubbing and picking. After a few hours everything was nice and clean. I thought I had defeated the algae.

Boy was I wrong. Algae came screaming back like a bat out of hell.
It came back twice as bad.

I read around and decided to use methods other had used before me.
I started dripping kalk, keeping my ph up near 8.5.
I did many, many water changes.
I stopped adding any chemicals to the tank.
I increased my Specific gravity to 1.026.
I decreased the photoperiod to 2 hours a day.

It seemed as if I was winning. there was just one more thing missing.......The lighting.

I had been using 250watt 10K Ushio's at the time.
They were only 6 months old, so they were not the problem.
The VHO's were also fairly new.
I decided to switch my lighting to 20K XM's.
I shift in spectrum was the final nail in the coffin.

Algae was picked off a second time.
This time it didnt come back.
I really think that the change in spectrum and PAR had the biggest impact on the algae growth.

The before and after pictures are only one month apart.
A little persistence goes a long way.

Is the tank completely BB? It's hard to tell if you have a faux sandbed or just very little sand. Either way, the tank is beautiful!!!!!!!!!!!!!

In the begining I had a 1 inch sandbed but it kept getting blown around. So over the past few months I have taking out the sand.

the rocks have never had sand under them and are sitting on cutting board.

I havent heard from him in quite some time.
Too bad he such a run of bad luck with Katrina and all.
I wonder if he ever got around to setting up the tank.
I remember telling him I was going to ship him some frags.

Thanks everyone for your kind words. :D
