The power has been out nearly three hours, but everything is running great in my aquarium due to that $200 generator. It's an off brand that we got at B.J.'s several years ago and it starts on the first pull and works like gangbusters. If you don't have one, consider this purchase. The peace of mind is priceless.

Always have a $3 bottle of carb cleaner available. No matter how dry you store your gen, Sta-Bil the gas, run it monthly... When you need it most, it will be gummed up just enough not to run.

I bought a knock-off Honda 16 HP at Pepboys about 4 years ago for $350. Never had an opportunity to have to use it til today. Thankfully I had everything set to go. Lifted the original cardboard box I had saved after prep. Plugged in the cord I had prepped on day 1 into the auxilliary box. Threw the main breaker to off. 2 pulls. 5 minute warm-up. flipped the switch and viola. The whole house was running. The sump was a couple inches below emergency overflow level during power down. All the pumps fired right back up. MHs fired without incedent....
Very comforting to believe I have what it takes to avoid disaster.
