But yes just gently get your nail under one part of the foot and gently "unglue" his foot. Once you get a little undone you can work your finger under more and more of it. Doesn't take that long once you get a little bit started. Just be carefull not to jam your nail into the foot and then don't pull up on it untill you know it is completley unattached.

But yes please post pics when you get home. I have never heard of a Lta splitting before.

I would love to see pics of a split LTA too I have never heard of that before either.

An update on my LTA, I rearanged my rockwork in a way that lets more light down to the sand (I was wanting to rescape anyway, so took the opportunity to do so when the LTA was out of the way), and put some more sand down where I would like it to stay. I got it disconnected from the rock it decided to attach to after it came of the glass by holding the rock, with the LTA upsdie down, out of the water just enough for the base of the foot to come out of the water and just very, very gently pryed at the base of the foot with my finger. After about 30 seconds it let go. Right now its just sitting in one of those mesh breeders until the tank clears up from the aquascaping.

Does anyone know any tricks try to get it to stay where I want it when I put it back?

hansonfam, I see that you said you started with 2 LTA's, is it possible that the are reproducing sexually?

i've had mine for 3 years and it has never split...it's huge in size and has recently started moving around the tank after being in place for 6 months...lighting is the same with 2x250 MH, 2x54 T5 and 3x96 VHO...all lights are about 4-5 months old...hopefully he'll settle back down into one solid spot again.

I doubt mine are reproducing sexually. When they split they kind of close up a little for a while then I eventually notice two mouths. It seems like it is not necessarily the largest ones that split. I have had mine under 4 110 VHO's in a 90g. I never feed them. Just last week I switched my lights out two 2 X 150 MH and 2 X 96 PC's. I am interested to see if there is any change with the new lights.

wow that's a big difference---hope you have adjusted the photo period accordingly-for not just the anemone--alll corals

Sorry ryancaudill, addressed the wrong person there.

Since nobody seemed to have any tips on how to keep the LTA where I wanted it I decided to experiment. I took a couple of plastic hangers and cut them up into roughly 6" long sticks and stuck them in the sand, basically making a fence around the area that I want the LTA to stay in. Its about the same area it was in before, but now there is more light getting to the bottom, and there is a deeper sandbed there. Hopefully the "fence" will keep it from tumbling around the tank burning everything up.

Yes I am easing everything into the new lights. Right now only running the halides for 2-3 hrs. Good fence idea. It wont work for me because I now have decided I need a bigger tank. But then again don't we all.

Well the fence kinda worked. It kept the LTA from rolling around the aquarium, but it did eventually climb the rock next to the fence and go around it. At least it decided to dig in there. The part that sucks is it decided to dig in between a rock and the front glass! Now i can only see the underside of the disk and part of the foot. Where it used to be you were looking directly at it head-on. At least it looks very happy where it is now, so I am not going to bother trying to move it. I think its best to leave it happy and looking very healthy after its run in with the koralia. It was cool to see it digging in by the glass though. You could see the whole process, because the foot is right up against the glass.
