Ugh. I finally found the correct ID for the mis-labeled wrasse I bought last year. This guy picks off snails (mostly margaritas) like crazy. Obviously I need to get it out of my tank as my tank is not the optimum environment for it. So, how to catch a fast moving and very skittish 4 1/2" long wrasse? The net is not an option. It bolts whenever it see the net.

Any ideas?

Thalassoma are perfect to be caught by hook and line... just use a small trout hook with the barb removed... they're almost always the first fish in the tank to take the bait so this works quite well...

Thanks John. I'll have to dig out my husband's tackle box and see what he's got. I'm pretty sure it'll strike a piece of shrimp on the hook. I'll give it a try tomorrow.

You could use a wet napkin dipped in mysis juice... the hard thing would be to catch something other than your lunar wrasse... :)

 That dumb huh? The clown might show some interest but the wrasse is so quick it'll beat the clown to it.

Good luck Sugar! I'm guessing your LFS will take the fish once you catch it?

Yes, I'll just take it back to where I bought it from. They're really good about that.

It's such a pretty fish, but I just don't have the room it really requires to thrive.

Check in the dead of night - I had one of these years ago that would sleep like a rock, buried in the substrate or in a mucous cocoon in a cave. Would be dead simple to just reach in and scoop him out.

Good thinking! Adrienne, do you know where your wrasse tucks in for the night?

Ya my lunare wrasse is stupid he sleeps right next to the front glass panel at night. SHoudl be easy to catch him on a small hook.
