Mine is 5'X10' roughly and although I wish I could go bigger, it's fine. In fact in the redesign, I just elected to utilize more space above my head and was able to design more than enough room. The smaller room is also easier to vent and cheaper to heat/cool Reminds me too stay away from the crispy cremes too!
Mine is 7 * 10 approx, and my tank is 3 feet by 4 and a bit basal area. I wish itwas bigger as I hope to be able to part use it as an office, but it's just too cramped, especially as I squeezed in a 20 long down one wall
Yeah, we decided 100% that we are NOT doing this tank Our house is just not big enough to eat up that much room w/ a tank that size. I would like get a tank of a different size that wouldn't stick out into the room so much. I might know where to get one.
Well unless you can afford a huge house, I think to some degree we all think the tank takes up too much room, but after it's up, running and stocked, the feeling goes away. When I first got mine in I thought I was stupid for getting an 8' tank as it narrows a walkway to a closet we use as storage. After some time, I just got used to it and I really like it...
Not sure whether your feelings would chage or not after you have it up and running and find it being the centerpiece of your home
same here i don't regret it at all, knowing i have no return value whatsoever. at least when the car is sold you might be able to make a little back, and on the other hand fish display would not even get a 10% return. have you tried posting in the selling forums hopefully you might be able to get rid of it there. i hate to see that beautiful tank goes to someone else and you didn't even get a chance to enjoy it.
What about putting it through a wall so that it shows 50% of the tank and the rest is viewed through the front like Steve Weast's tank? That way you keep from using too much space in the room and have access from either end. I could see how it would be easier to hook up all the equipment behind the wall.
Ok well I finally got the bug and decided to start measuring out what it would look like if we kept the cube. We put up signs at our LFS and not a SINGLE bite...so maybe that is a sign that we are supposed to keep it.
So, I took the handy tape measure and I did some measuring. Well my MAX fish room can be 38"x11ft Not very wide but it is pretty long. I can make it work...plus I can put stuff under the stand of the tank). I would plan on sinking the tank in the "tank room" 12". So my space behind the tank would be 26" enough for me to get the CL plumbing in and get behind it easy. Also, that means that were the tank is I can put stuff under the stand some to save room...so I'll have 26" (fish room) plus 48" for the stand. I'd have to make the most of my space....but I could do it.
Just for the heck of it I measured my 58gal that is in that same room right now. It sits out from the wall to fit the ballasts and the top off container behind it. Also, the skimmer sits to the left of it and the chiller also. The footprint that it takes up is 32" out from the wall and OVER 48" wide...more like 54" or so w/ the skimmer and chiller and CO2 tank. So guess what...the 58gal takes up MORE ROOM in the living room then the 48x48x20" cube would!!!
With that put in perspective I/we (wife and I) have decided to keep the tank and do it just like usual. Now I just need to figure out how I can lay out the tank room (38"x11ft) efficiently. Out comes the graph paper
This tank still won't go up for I bet 6months-1yr but hey it's "In the works"
Lunch, my tank room is tiny and I regret not making it bigger. So much more can achieved when you have lots of space. When I can afford an extension and other stuff I'll definitely be figuring in a huge tank room.
