Another option is to drill the correct sized hole in a piece of MDF, and then glue that board to the acrylic tank with 3M double-sided tape. Using a router with a bearing as the guide, route out the hole as it traces the inner rim of the MDF template.

I like that idea the best Marc. Probably the cleanest.

LB, don't know if you have ordered your BHs yet but thought I'd let you know. The ones that flexpvc.com sells can accept female couplers of the next size pvc on the outside threads (where the nut goes) of the BH. So I bought 3 - 1" BHs and used 1.25" pvc on the outside. Once I core out the inside of the BH with my dremel, I will technically have 3 - 1.25" BHs instead. I just thought that was pretty neat. I also ordered their 1.5" BHs with the strainer (much better looking than the MEGA strainers people are using) but haven't tried it yet. Hopefully, I won't get any cavitation with these strainers.

Bulkheads - I got the black strainers at the bottom of that page.

Ya, I know but there are a lot of holes on them and they are about twice the diameter of the BH so hopefully they will work.

I see. So it spreads out. Hard to see that in the pics. Seems like that might be nice for in the display. The holes are small though. Like I use the other ones in my overflow and they only keep big stuff from getting through. These ones might clog up easier but I guess we won't know until you try them! :D

When you coming this way next time? Let me know.

Heck I could have seen melev this weekend. Flew out to San Fran for a Trade show for my biz and was at the Dallas Fort Worth Air port. Had aboutg 10min there though :D Then was in San Fran for 3days in Chicago and home.

I need to catch up on emails and threads soon. I'm alive just busy as heck!

Liked your input on the PodCast too.

I was in Aberdeen for 2 LONG days...visiting my wife's Grandmother. It was fine but I could have used some reef. :D

The only issue I see with those is that they can be fish and invert killers. The big mega strainers are great because they keep the silly sea creatures a good distance from the suction force of the pump.

If you come out for half a day, we can get together and talk in person. Or record. Or drink. Or all of the above. :D

jnarowe - Let me know next time. Aberdeen is about 2-3hrs away but you're welcome.

melev - Sounds good. When you going to record again?? Lets do this thing man.

everyone ideas is really good, but this is how i will be doing mine, similar to melev ideas..since my sump is 8' long I will cut out the wood template for all my bulkheads to exact size of sump, then I will use quick grip clamps all throughout the sump to secure them very good, than I will my router. just a suggestion and I will be doing this on mine setup soon..

Well the only update on the tank is that it was moved inside from the garage. It went stupid unusually cold for about 5-7days a couple weeks ago and I didn't want it sitting in the cold temps. So it is on our spare twin bed taking up 3/4 or MORE of it. That tank is HUGE. House hunting is going like crap. We don't make enough and have too much in student loans to afford much. The housing market is just getting in full swing though so only time will tell. We saw a perfect place a couple weeks ago where I could have put the tank in the basement and it had a laundry room next to the wall where I would ahve put the tank. Had a sink in there an everything. It sold 1-2days after we looked at it for more than we could afford...sniffle sniffle.

I need ot order bulkheads sometime soon but been too busy at work. Then need to get the reflectors and dart pump. What is a good place to buy LUminarcs? I'm thinking of using those reflectors that kevinpo showed since I could attach my actinics right to them and they should spread ok I would think but Luminarcs still linger in my head.

Thought I would update on the staleness of my project :(

I've been lurking...

Anyway, I second Reef-Exotics - top-notch customer serive - unbeatable prices - and you get the real-deal lumenarcs from them.

Progress looks great - sick stand!

cbui2 and PITSTOP - Thanks for where to go for luminarcs. Still undecided on what to do for reflectors but hey I have time.

Since it has warmed up I really do want to start to get the plumbing hammered out.

I downloaded google sketchup and was goofing around w/ it. Here are a few pics of what the tank looks like. I just need to read on how to put dimension labels on this stuff.

That skethup program looks nice. How long did it take you to put that diagram together? What is the learning curve like?

It actually didn't take too long. Maybe 30min or so. But most of that was measuring my tank and getting the holes in the correct spot.

Learning curve isn't too bad. All that I know how to do is the stuff to make a tank but you can do a TON more things
