Made new mounting system for tunze stream 6100!!!!!!!!!!!!

pbanda- the best solution I have seen for this is either attach the rail with screws to the cap from the inside.

If and when your suction cups fail and a 3000gph pump launches across your aquarium and kills your corals and the pump is ruined because it ate sand I don't want to hear about it and you will be paying the repair bill not me.

Oooooookkkkkkk........ :)

If we thought suction cups would work we would offer them, we offer them for just about every other product- we even looked into high powered magnets. The risk is very real to the livestock and the pumps. I remember when the 7410 pumps came standard with suction cups and regardless over time they came free, even 1000gph kicking up sand on a plate coral or the like could very well kill it. You can laugh if you want but I don't want to be getting pumps back that were ruined due to improper installation when gravel gets into the internal parts and grinds them up.

at worst it would hit my rock, and ive never seen the pumps wip around, i cant use your mounting kit cause of my hood

Judging by that pic of the oceanic tank, how would you mount it to the side when the canopy comes down on the tank. It is shown with the bracket which needs to clamp down. So if the canopy is in the way, how can we attach it and keep it as close to the glass as possible?...

I am sorry if it seems as if I am criticizing your ingenuity but I repair everything that comes in and most of what I see is unnessecary and if I repair things that are not really warranty I eat it, Tunze will not comp me for non manufacturing defect issues and even then I only get a replacement part as needed- my time or shipping is not paid for except by selling the product.

Admittedly caps present an issue. Everything is centered around European design and while we were able to adapt to US trim I honestly thought caps were disappearing in favor of pendants due to heat from modern high intensity lighting and didn't really anticipate this problem.

Can you-

A) Mount it to an internal over flow box?

B) Drain the tank about 6-8" and install the fiberglass holding plates that come with kit 3000.26. This is done by lightly scuffing the glass with a scotch brite pad or 400 grit sandpaper and then siliconing the plates in place. The glass to glass adhesion is nearly permanent. The rail is screwed to these plates with the pump when the silicon is cured.

C) Mount the rail to the cap with woodscrews?

D) Make a small glass plate that goes from front to back and along the side- maybe 2" wide and seat it in the groove where a lid would go then use kit 3000.26 for perimeter bracing, a 3/16 or 1/4 piece of plate glass would work perfect.

I use a glass top (I know, but it's personal preference), on my 200 gal Oceanic, so I had to use a little ingenuity, but very easily modified the included mounting of the Tunze 6100's to mount on my overflows. I took the mounting strap/hook of a maxijet and bolted it to the tunze rail with included Tunze plastic bolts. This gave me the low clearance to hang it from the overhead and still install the glass top. I wanted to hang the tunzes at opposite ends of the tank on the overflow surface parallel to the front of the tank, yet face each other. This would require the tunzes to rotate 90 degrees on their adapters. With some creative work with a dremel, I was able to accomplish nearly 90 degrees. So I wound up with secure mounts at opposite ends of the tank hanging off the overflow, with the back of the powerhead butting against the end plates of the aquarium to react the thrust. With the erector set concept of the Tunze mounts, I think that most installation problems could be overcome with some modification,

I do not have my pumps yet, but i am looking ahead. Yeah i can try to mount it to the hood, but i will have to wait until i get them to come up with a game plan.

As far as mounting it to the glass permanently, i do not see that happening. If i ever decide to take them down i will have some nice scratches.

Where there is a will there is a way, so i'm sure i'll come up with something. If and when i will share.

Thanks.

Here is how I have my stream attached to my tank. I have a hood so attaching it over the lip is not an option. I just hooked it onto the inner lip of the tank. Then cut the piece that attaches to the suction cup down a little so the stream stays level vertically. I have not had any problem in the year it has been on the tank. I check on it often but only had to readjust it once, after I pushed the pump accidentally.

Here is the bracket attacjed to the inner lip on my 180g AGA tank.

Here is the stream being held in place vertically.

I really want a pair of those things!
I'm fighting with myself right now over drilling my new 220 for a closed loop, or going with a pair of streams. Mounting them is not nearly as much an issue as the innitial cost. I know that they will pay for themselves with the difference in electrical consumption, but I haven't been able to bring myself to bite the bullet yet.

JBNY,

That's the way to mount it with the .244 bracket. Only problem is i want them closer to the tank. They are a tad big to begin with, so extending them out further is something i would try not to do. I'm going to make a bracket that i can screw into the canopy, or more like a fake lid, and then clamp the stream to it. At least that's my goal.

dear Roger, do you recommend this?

dear Roger, do you recommend this?

I have it attached the same way as JB NY
for the same reasons (see.. JB NY pics)
It seems very strong
What do you think Roger?

thanks

Mine are the same way, although I didn't get the suction cups for the bottom (probably asked for the wrong kit). No problems at all two months now. These are the best flow creators I have ever used, period. The size is the only downside, but all the other positives make up for it in a big way in my opinion.

Your prechin to the choir............lol Still true enough though. I love these german babies.

Oh and for what is worth your lighting rocks. I have had my system in place for a couple of weeks and the tank never looked better.

brave very brave indeed I would not use suction cups to mount any pump long term would never do it for a stream.

There must be another way to mount the pump that fits with your tank

The magnet holders will be out soon enough, I wouldn't trust suction cups, frankly I hate suction cups, they never hold very long and the mess that can be made when they fall into the sand can be bad news.
