Mandarine Goby anyone?

I'll take him! will you take $14 for him?

(oh I'm just kidding, it did sound like you were selling him! :))

ok thats blackworms i used to give those to my baby motoro rays to get them going on food but the mandarine like them that is always something good to know

"Generally, they eat their weight in live pods, daily,."...I don't think this is right..I would love to see documentation of this statement.

After much debate I picked one up from LS on Sunday (the last one too I believe, sorry Jenni) it was picking at my rocks soon after I put it in and really active. Only down side is it hides in the back which I was expecting. I was feeding the tank, and tried tossing some bloodworms in it ate them right away, then was picking at a small piece of mysis. Pretty exciting!

They were sold to me, and the packaging says they're bloodworms, they're bright red, so I think they're blood worms.

ashtree68,
Where are getting the blood worms? Are they live? Can you take picture of the package? Thanks.

I really want to get a mandarine but I feel so detered by the eating problems that come along with them. If I do get one I noticed some will eat blood worms some will eat mysis as well as pods in the tank. my question is how do you feed them without the other fish eating up all the food before the mandarine has time to feed? My foxface and coral beauty are pigs. I've also got hermits and any food that hits the sand they are on it. Are my dreams of a mandarine just dreams or am i worrying too much? And how do you get them acostomed to eating frozen foods?

wait and buy the ORA version, they will come down in price, but apparently these will eat non-live foods.

Yes, I like Mandarines a lot. I lost about 5 of them because the stupid 6 lines wrasse kill them. This time the mandarines live longer because I took the 6 line wrasse out. I did buy some Pod at MCF last week and hope enough for my 2 mandarines. I will stop by LFS tonight to get some blood worm and try it.

I'd be hesitant about the trained-on-frozen thing, especially if you have to feed them in a tank larger than a small nano where other fish might compete for food. It'd still be better to go ORA captive-bred, but I would STILL make sure I had an established population of pods in the refugium before pulling that trigger.

I've read a couple posts by people who have them and they all seem to say that the mandarine, will still peck at rocks and hunt for pods but will also be a lot braver and eat with everyone else.

As far as feeding mine, all I have in that tank is a clown pair, which may be moving soon, and a YWG/pistol shrimp pair. I feed the clowns normally by dropping food in, the YWG/pistol get the left overs and then I squirted food over to the mandarine to make sure it got some, went right for them. Just luck of the pick I guess.
