Maricultured Pieces care and plug treatment

I don't understand Why is it everyone keeps saying the same thing over and over? DID anyone that purchased matriculated pieces buy them directly or did they get them from a wholesaler or a local pet shop. If I dipped three times and i don't see any eggs then how else would i get them in my tank? This sought of thing gets me upset as people always talk about this that and the other thing but never really say the common denominator. I will see what happens in a month and hope that i did things correctly . Can you post some of your pictures as I would like to see what you ended up with in the long run.\

People preach it because like it or not it's the truth.. There's no way you can spot every single egg on all the bases forever.. You may come out of this one you may not people are just looking out for you honestly.
Just do a simple search of people who dealt with or are dealing with them. I'd bet some if not most had the same thinking you do at this point of " there is no way any have gotten in my tank" and all sudden they are losing thousands of dollars in acro's and tearing the tank down to quarantine and dip what's left. It's just an easy precaution that can be made to basically insure you don't get any eggs in the system.
I truly believe there is no possible way you will make it the long run putting those bases in your tank but it's your choice to make.
They are looking good though =) and I hope your remark of them being easy as all other acros keeps true for you as that's not the case for most..

Thanks for the comments and I hope I come out ok. Assuming no eggs what the problem with the plugs? Are they made with polutants or something? Well let's see what happens in a month if I get that far. But how is the plugs any different from aquaculture live rock ? This entire thread has my head spinning now and I am almost allowing my paranoia to set in. Awwwwwww wish me luck and chances are I will be dipping again this weekend just to see if I find any eggs or worms.
Wish me luck everyone and I prommose to tell the truth of the outcome.

Here's a pic of my 120g (long gone). I have a thread on R2R in the SPS section (my long journey - aefw) that is stickied with more details if you want to read it. The pic below was shortly after I discovered them. So it was nearly at the pinnacle. Every acro in that tank was grown from a 1-3" frag. Tearing apart a 16" red planet was tough. I nearly cried.

So so very sorry how did you get them if all of them were grown from frags? Did you introduce maricultured pieces. Also did you dip and check for eggs worms on every piece before putting the tank? Also if you had such large colony's chances are you introduced them towards the end of its peak.

No mariculture pieces were ever added. I dipped and inspected (with a mini microscope) every piece. I probably introduced them when I bought about 25-30 frags from four different places early that year. I had about $2k in frags on the frag rack at that time.
Dipping does nothing (that's the main point I'm trying to convey). It's all about QT and breaking the cycle. Ten dips, six days apart, with Bayer at a strength of 10ml per cup for 10 minutes is what I did the second time I got them. Luckily, they were all frags so it was much easier and more feasible. I now have a QT tank that I will run all coral through.
Here's a recent FTS of my new 60g cube. It's about five or six months old, and I just finished dipping acros a couple months ago. So things are still small for the most part and still coloring up.

Wow so they really are a nasty worm. So the dip doesn't kill the eggs but will kill the worms correct? Also I didn't use bayer but I did use coral Rx and I don't know if one is better then the other but I will be pulling a few out next weekend to see if there is anything going on. I am sick to my stomach now and have taken close up pictures of everything and thank god I don't see anything.

Take a turkey baster and blow gently on them. They will fly off if you have them, and the fish will likely eat them - adults anyways. The smaller ones have a better grip. I caught a few and did some testing on different doses, and that was how I came up with the dosage (along with whisperers help).

The plugs are basically concrete from what I know but they are also known for introducing nuisance algae's along with pests..
I wouldn't stress to much off of it now, what's done is done because they are in your tank. Def keep your eyes out in case you have to do some serious intervention but imo A turkey baster and close observation of the colonies weekly will let you know if you have any aefw a lot easier than constant dipping, and a lot less stressful on already delicate corals that have been through a lot and need to acclimate to life in a box.
Just my opinion though and good luck..

I love bengals
My tank is basically all wild corals and mariculture pieces. I qted everything and watched it all for a few months before putting the in the tank. I had good luck this time around in that I never saw any signs of them on anything I bought. I keep them on the plug because I am qting anyways and I didn't want to stress the coral by cutting it off. I brush the plug with a stiff toothbrush before adding to qt which helps me see any eggs. I have seen just as many pests in people's tanks that were selling coral at home as to any of the wild stuff coming in. Its a gamble either way.
I just face the fact that it could happen at any moment, even bringing in other frags or rocks could have any random pest on it. If I worry about pests the hobby will not be enjoyable for me. So I am always prepared to do what it takes if I get them when I am collecting. So many people are not aware of what they have or how to even look for them. I have been through the dipping process to kill aefw the wrong way many times, and the right way once. They are tough little devils but I will not let the thought of getting them or any other pest ruin my experience. I just try to educate and tell people to research before buying collections of corals, hoping more people learn will help keep all of our tanks cleaner.

Thanks!!, I can't wait to buy a DSLR camera so i can take better pictures. They had 3 abro's there I was the 3rd pick when they brought all 120 pieces of sps they went quick since they were being sold at a good price i took the fastest looking one. It was so hard to cut the base of that i was using two hands trying to cut it.

I am sure we are getting them from the same source and mine were really cheap as well.
who needs frags that cost hundreds when i can buy 8 to 10 full blown colony for the same price.

i got mine from nelson and ralph when they brought the shipment in. I came in early since the people that go to those things are sellers so they cherry pick being third pick wasn't that bad but the second guy took so many pieces especially the granulosa the only one that was brought in and yea 25$ a pop cant beat that.
