Mark,

I hope to finish the plumbing this weekend and start installing the reef ceramic back plates.

I was at YourReef yesterday (finally getting back into the game) and John had some really nice LR pieces.

Definetly come on by when your system is up and ready and I'll hook you up.

James

Thanks James and welcome back to the game.

I might be in contact with you in regards to the fauna marin tricks. I have been hunting for the best method to unbind my rocks. Thanks again

I am buying 6 maricultured SPS colonies from a local seller. Do I stand a better chance of not getting AEFW if I cut the corals off the plugs? Seems like if I visually inspect the coral for AEFW , dip them and observe them in quarantine for a week or so. Do the plugs "hide" the pests better since they get in the cracks and such?
I am sorry about what happened.

I definitely would never add a base into your tank. Even with inspecting corals and QTing my corals, I still ended up contracting the "reef herpies" as my friend Doug says

I still believe they came in as eggs and even though we dipped and inspected each one of the corals when I was pulling them, I only found one clutch of eggs. The sad thing is that it only takes one egg to get through :(

Mark, your perseverance has inspired me to give this hobby one more round. If you can do it, I can do it right? :)

Just waiting til after saturday.

if i isolate the corals and watch them to see if they get eaten , how long do i have to do that before I can say they are clean?

That is the million dollar question. I have no clue in regards to their life cycle especially when it comes to their eggs. I have heard most often 21-30 days to be safe. Sorry that I can not be more helpful.

Thanks Jay, I would offer you some corals, but..... ;)

Hey Terry, Here is the abridged update:

Tank looked great
I found aefw:mad2:
I looked for info
Tank still looked great
I debated what to do
I looked for info
Tank still looked great
I set up a QT sytem
I debated some more
Tank still looked great
I went "all in"
I dipped 1st round last week
Tank looks empty :(
2nd round will be today

Beside that, How are things? Jeremy moved, Jim's out, Sang's out and your not around much.

Just a quick update.

I started at 1pm and just finished about 10 minutes ago. Another round of levamisole and revive. I found one subadult and one small juvinile. It looked like only one coral was showing any signs of bite marks and that was in the batch where I found the aefw. I ended up placing a lot of the corals on frag plugs (thanks minh) and I consolidated and trimmed up a few corals. I have a couple more to get to, but I got hungry and it will give me something to do tomorrow.

The corals themselves are doing pretty well. A lot of the fresh cuts from last week are basically healed over and most are still holding decent colors. I really like the colors under helios DE 250's.

The main tank is basically a glorified fish tank right now. Even my wife misses "all the pretty sticks" :)

How are things going with the QT process Mark? Are you using 20k helios?

Things are going pretty much as planned in QT Rob. I've lost a couple of colonies, but nothing out of teh ordinary. They are pieces that I know are tempermental like the Candlelight, tubs horrida and a couple of turakis. The majority of them are doing fine and most are even holding their colors under the Helios 20K DE.

I am off to the garage to do the 3rd treatment. This week I am going to do a Revive only treatment. This dip should tell me alot. Last week I only found two; one subadult and one juvinile. Both of which could of just been misses from the first treatment. I am trying to not get my hopes up, but this dip should tell me a lot about their life cycle.

Sounds like your on the right track. I think after this battle you will love your tank even more. I wish I could have seen it in person before the tear down. Good Luck and as always LMK if I can help out with anything.

I did have a fish R.I.P. last week. My diamond spot goby that has been with me for over 3.5 years finally passed :(

A couple of the corals that I have either ditched or lost over the last couple of weeks

I was only able to save a small frag of this wild bonsai :(

Same here, but the frag I keep is pretty bleached

There a few others, but none that I had photo'd.

After my 3rd session of consectutive Saturday dipping, I have my fingers crossed as I did noy find any AEFW. I dipped all of the smaller and medium sized coral in revive and the larger stags and millis I dipped agin in levamisole. I know that I am not out of the dark, but after this session, I feel much better as I was even able to ditch a couple corals that I could do without.

The tank is reaquascaped and this time without any acros in the display is allowing me to capture the green chromis one by one. So all in all, I am pretty happy with todays' results.

Glad to hear that thing are looking better. Losses are never fun but thing will be back to normal soon.
