Maroon Clownfish Pairing

Hi Guys, this is my first post.... so I have 2 maroon clownfish, one is about 4" long, gold stripe maroon, most likely female as when I got her she was alone at the store. I've had her for about a month now. I got a 3/4" white stripe maroon from a maroon community tank that I am pretty sure is male; he's redder and upon first introduction he did the quiver-y thing a few times and did not get attacked immediately. However 3 minutes later he was being chased around and nipped at so badly that I put him in a clear specimen jar next to the females BTA. I've let him out every day, and by the 3rd day I had 20 minutes with no fighting, but no quivering either. The female would go over to him and he would try swim away, scared of her, and when cornered, he swam sideways a bit, she then left him alone. After that she would go over again, and he would swim away and when cornered just swim against the glass, and thats when she would attack him and would not stop chasing him. He's now back in the specimen jar next to her BTA again.

Should I give up and exchange him for a new one? or keep trying? I've been letting him out and putting him back in the specimen jar for 3 days now. Though the time in which he does not get attacked is increasing, he still ultimately gets attacked and tries to hide and seems lethargic for a while afterwards. Is there a reason why he is not quivering?

I'd appreciate any suggestions!

Thanks!

I dont think thats a good place to keep him because no oxygen can get in the jar. There are a lot of threads on here about pairing marroons. Just use the search tab

haha, thanks for the welcome. i thought someone would say something about that... it was just like that for a few minutes cause otherwise it had mesh covering the top you would not be able to see the fish. I did a search and read the posts... my specific question is there something wrong with my male? cause he did shiver or quiver and now he won't seem to do it...

I tried this a few times with a very large female and a very small male that was the most submissive of the group I could identify. (from the research I had done, this increased the odds slightly)

I would get up to the point you were, try and let him go, but the stress of the whole ordeal usually forced them into hiding and they died.

......though I do think it is possible, and a method could be found to increase the odds....I don't think I could say your chances are high and it probably should be not done casually, as I can attest to, and wouldn't repeat myself.

With consideration for the livestock, I would suggest trying to find a mated pair from the LFS.

The shivering, isn't on cue, and even then she may kill him. Trust me, not fun to be a baby clown fish killer..... :(

Even if the small males twitches in submission, it still doesn't mean she will accept it, it's up to her.
My last maroon female would not accept my first two attempts, and they would swim fast as possible just to TRY to twitch for her, but she would have none of it.
I would trade your guy, and use a floating specimen container so it will breathe scent, and you can feed it.
