Mars Aqua Chinese LED review (Ebay)

Does anyone know if I wire these units in series so I only have two plugs going to an apex, can I still dim and control with the modification already detailed on this thread?

They can be daisy chained together

Hey guys, I've been running the 300w MarsAqua on my 40 breeder for the past two months and right now I run the blue channel exclusively for most of the day to reduce algae growth and also because my Acans like it.

Blue channel only is too harsh for my taste, though. I want to soften it a bit. Even when I run the whites at minimum power, it's too white. So here's my question:

Has anyone added a few whites (maybe 4) to their blue channel to soften it up a bit? The alternative would be to add more blues, I suppose, to my white channel? I already switched out the red and green LEDs for UV LEDs.

I should mention that I'm running my blues at 40% currently by themselves to allow my new corals to acclimate.

I have the same experience as ginoandres. I run my Blues only for most of the day and only turn on whites for a little bit. My acans also seem to like just Blues better.

Thinking of doing a mod that ray mentioned.

Do I need the white channel on more for growth?

After reading through this thread, decided to try this out for myself, as my 20" fixture from my old tank was not going to cut it on a 55.

Ordered Tuesday, shipped Wednesday, and evidently they tried to deliver to me Thursday. Went and picked it up today, expecting a package from the in-laws, not my light already!

Just going to try a single 300W over the 55 for now, if I pull the optics and still have too much shadowing on the edges, I will add something else. I wanted a light with a sunrise and sunset feature, but for this price, I am ok not having that.

it's not if you will have some shadowing. You will have some for sure and probably a lot. I think the max a 300 watt can cover is 38x24. You should have gotten 2 of the 165 Watt models as these would be perfect at 24x24 coverage for each fixture.

Have to you seen the Mod. that Dartolution did on page 35? He swapped a number of whites for violets, similar to what you had in mind. Can you upload a pic so we can see what yours looks like? I'm curious with my 40B getting ready to set up what different light combos look like

U.S. version you can't...unless you wire the sockets and purchase/build cables yourself.
Load builds pretty quickly (300 draws about 188 watts total at the wall), so I wouldn't combine more than two per AC cord (depending on gauge).

And the last obligatory terrible iPhone FTS, god I need a new camera...

I haven't, I will check out that mod now.

Here is my 40b with the 300w fixture. It's been up for two months as of today and everything is going well. This is with blue channel only at maybe 40% and an orange filter I use for phone pics.

Looks good so far! The diodes are super cheap on ebay, so its easy to pick up a number of 10K/20K diodes to give you a crisper white spectrum

Hey everyone,
just got these lights monday,
was wondering if there was anyway that I could somehow quiet the fans? They're super loud...

Very easy to replace. Open LED fixture. Unscrew 4 screws holding the fan. Cut the two wires (Black and red) on the old fan. On your new case fans there are usually 3 wires. Just cut all three and use just use the black and red wires. Solder, tape, or wire crimp the wire together and place the new fan where the old fan used to be. Screw the fans in and that's it. Enjoy the quietness.

Fans are 80mm
I used these. Low RPM and low dBA
Speed: 1500 RPM
Air Flow: 24 CFM
Noise Level: 14 dBA

I think the only way would be to replace them with higher quality fans.

Here's my 300w set up over a 40 breeder. These things are bright! I think I have mine set to like 40% blue 25% white and I feel like it's more than enough.

Also I have them about 16 inches over the tank.
