In researching getting interrupta from Asia the permitting and shipping costs are very high so this does seem like a good deal and I have heard good things about Blue Harbor. I think a 3 inch fish is a good size for this project. A larger female would produce more eggs but I can start work with small amounts of eggs and a 3 inch fish should be large enough to spawn. I feel fairly confident that it will be a female and we have more chance of getting a male if we go larger.
Wayne, I will be going to the permitting office tomorrow and I spoke with them today to make sure we do this correctly. I can fax or email you the permit. The permit number needs to be written on the outside of the box and the copy goes inside the box. When it gets to FedEx in Honolulu it will be opened and inspected by an Ag. officer to make sure the fish in the box is that listed on the permit. I would like to pick it up at the airport FedEx rather than having it drive around hot Hawaii in the delivery truck. You can let FedEx know that and write my name and phone number on the box. They will call me when it has cleared inspection. I've done this before and it has worked out well. The only thing to avoid is having the box arrive after work hours for the inspector.
I think it would be good to let the fish have a break at your place before shipping out to Hawaii but I want to make this easy and convenient for you as well. There is also the risk of something being introduced to your system and I'd hate for that to happen. So I'll leave that up to you and I can accept the fish anytime. And Thanks Again!!!
