Hi,this is just a little info on this fish for those interested .3 weeks ago I purchased one of theses little guys ,hoping it would eliminate my mojano anenomes.( I have both kinds, the short greeny ones and the long brown tentacled ones too) the reason for the purchase was because the mojanos were spreading around the whole tank.im pleased to say tat there is about a 90 percent reduction in these pests.although he is rather partial to pulsating xenias too.they have virtually all gone.at the moment it's ignoring my zoas, acros, and mushrooms.it occassionly nibbles at the sarcophyton mushroom.(when I catch him in the act ,I tap on the glass so he stops .and knows its naughty! Seriously though, it's a community fish and I'm happy with it.its about 5 cms long.i think my snail population may have receded too,but this could just be a natural die off.my asterinas are still multiplying.happy reefing

I have a pair of Matted Filefish in my 50G. There is a little of everything in there from SPS to NPS to clams and Coco Worms. Keep him well fed with fresh food and you should not have to worry about your corals.

Mine is the size of a 5 cent piece, and I have had it for 3 weeks in the DT.What a cool fish.Ate all the aptasia in a few days.Hasn't been nipping on my LPS and softies.I don't keep SPS,so maybe he'd go toward that,I don't know...I keep him well fed and there is no issues with the angelfish or Tangs.I really like this fish....

I have had a female for about 3 years. Now 3 inches. I had a real a aiptasia problem and in a couple weeks they were all gone from the DT. She leaves my corals alone and eats everything else I feed the other fish, even nori. Best $29 I ever spent on a fish.

i have one of these guys coming in a few weeks. i've tried every aiptasia remedy with virtually no success. hoping this fish will take care of the problem and not bother anything else.

Sorry to say I had a very bad experience w/ 3 of them!
Although they did wipe out the aptasia from my 220, & I kept them very well fed, they proceeded to wipeout all my Zoas.. I was bumped, cuz they really are cool looking fish.
Back to the LFS they went

I would make sure I was getting a (Acreichthys tomentosus). There is at least one other that looks similar that I have not had so much luck with.

I forget the scientific name and Tapatalk will probably lose this thread if I go to search, but the slender filefish looks quite similar.

I fined that the most often confused with the Matted Filefish is the Radial Filefish. I have had both and never had a Radial Filefish eat aiptasia.

Bristletail Filefish, Matted Leatherjacket Filefish, Tomentosus Filefish, Aiptasia Eating Filefish (Acreichthys tomentosus)
