Ha. Yeah the tanks has evolved a little over the time I have been building it.
Another small update as i had a little more time spare today I made a start on the cooling fans on the right hand side of the tank
These will be wired into a plug socket controlled by the ghl.

I made a start on some of the closed loop plumbing tonight, specifically the oceans motions.
The oceans motions is set to run outlets 1+3 and then 2+4 so they will fire diagonally across the tank from each corner. Each outlet has a revolutions, a small nozzle that rotates independently, further randomising the flow.

Ha..full steam ahead now Matt, work has eased off slightly too so i have a full weekend off for the 2nd time this year!!
Hi DNA. I completely agree, thanks. I fixed the fans to the wall, got out of the tank and looked up at them and thought "damn, I've put them too high!"
Now the pipe work below them is in place I can lower them so they sit just above the pipes which is about 5-6" lower than they are now.

You are a very talented and intelligent guy! I just discovered your build via Kovy. I too, had the same idea about using a Surge system with an ABV. I'm anxious to hear about your experience with it. I'm planning out an 850 gallon and I hate closed loops. You're an animal for setting up both.

Hi servo..thanks for your post and the compliments. Why do you hate closed loops?..the idea for the abv controlled surge was taken from a guy, cmpenny, who's thread I found on another forum. He has a couple of YouTube videos too which were pretty helpfull. I have recently had the surge control float switches and relay built so will add more info on those soon.

right a few more pics of progress...just plumbing, plumbing and more plumbing. It is scary how quick I am chewing through metres and metres of pipe
In various places in the tank there will be visible pipework, namely the oceans motions revolutions and a couple of other closed loops plus the feeds for the closed loops.
As an example:
I didnt want to have grey pipework visible against a black background so I bought some special plastic paint that bonds with the plastic. ( yes its marine safe and has been used a good few times in tanks )
This when sprayed on the pipework it turns it from the standard grey to a gloss black
Leaving a more desirable finish (IMO) to the plumbing that extends down into the tank

What follows are just various plumbing pics showing the progress to date. A couple of the closed loops will be left until the glass is in as they will be in the way.
This pic also shows that I have added two of the ballasts to the ceiling above the tank
Still havent lowered the fans yet
One side of the closed loop feed is done
And sprayed where it extends into the tank
One of the calfo loops is yet to be sprayed
I used double unions where possible so that 90% of the plumbing can be disassembled for ease of maintenance, especially the calfo loops.

I re-wired the MH ballast to include quick connect blocks so I can simply pull apart the connection and remove the reflector, again for ease of maintenance.
I thought I had better check the fans and wired them up to the transformer and socket before I go to the trouble of moving them down.
and thats where I am up to as of tonight.
