Matt's 5000ltr Display

Matt,
We have been closely watching your epic build with great admiration.
It is awesome to see all your hard work and painstaking design coming to life! We are going to have to make a journey overseas and come visit you and Luc!! Maybe we'll hit your place first, then go together to Belgium.

Seriously, keep up the great work, and the updates.

Blimey!

Something made me think of this project today and your early planning, a quick google and here it is! 28 pages of reading later and I'm seriously impressed. Excellent DIY skills and all your planning is paying off.

Looking fantastic Matt, hats off to you! I shall be following it from here with interest!

Hi Mike/Terry. That would be cool. The Uk has some great tanks I could show you. Obviously I would need you to see mine first before going on to some stunners! If the pics are anything to go by no one wants to follow Luc!

Hi Gaz...its been a while!
I hope you are well. Did you ever finish your haunted house?
I am looking forward to getting wet so I can pay Phil another visit. Thanks for stopping by mate.

I'm very well thanks mate. I'm nearly done with the house, no signs of paranormal activity so far! :spin2:

Phil now has all of my stock after I shut my tank down last week. I didn't have time to look after the tank as well as I would have liked so it had to go. Be quick and you might be able to get some nice specimens - it would be nice to see them go to a good home!

Thats a shame Gaz...I assume you are still working loads as well as renovating. Will you get back in the hobby when things settle?
I doubt I will be ready in time to pick up any of your stock. i am inching closer to getting wet but I dont have enough time myself to do as much as I would like.

It's partly lack of free time, but after a good few years I also just wanted a break from the maintenance aspects. I expect I'll start up another tank after a break but on a modest scale (2' cube maybe). In fact, after just over a week I'm finding myself thinking of ideas for a new tank....

Nothing like a good build thread like this to get one thinking of ideas!

lovley thread so far.. alot of hard work going into this one!

Thanks Leslie

I cut out of work a little early tonight and got a little more done.

I mounted the 2nd moonlight

I thought I had better make a start on the cladding too...or atleast the frame that will hold it.

looking great mate. the only question i have at the moment is how are you going to get into the tank to aquascape and place corals in the rock work? some very long tongs perhaps? haha cant wait to see this thing up and running

Hi Hamish.

I can fit through the gap between the top of the tank and the ceiling. The lights can either be pushed to the back out of the way or disconnected entirely and removed.

...a couple more pics from yesterdays activities.

I guess I was thinking the glass would be larger than the great big hole in the front so as not to come back out through the great big hole in the front. But then, I am a visual person.

Ha. It is Dave. The glass is 2" bigger on each edge. However because the tank is 52" front to back and is also 12" deeper than the glass and 2.5ft longer it allows for the glass to go in at an angle through the hole to then be straightened up when its inside the tank.

this is looking like an amazing set up. I have seen one very similar but lets hope you don't take as long as him as he's taking forever, lol

Dave

glass is in!

glass is in!

Some pics from earlier today. I had help from several members from a local forum to install the glass...thanks again boys ( if you're reading)
