Maxi-Jets clatter when used on Wavemaker?

I am looking into setting up a wavemaker for my tank.. leaning toward the ones that shut the pumps on and off (unless someone can recommend an inexpensive soft-start controller / wavemaker).

I'd like to use the JBJ wavemaker attached to 2 MJ modded pumps, but am worried about the noise.

Anyone have any personal experience with the above?

Thank you

Thank you for posting. hmm... the link isn't working, but I trust you. It makes sense: that the mods would create a reverse flow that would knock off the back casing..

Any suggestions for a soft start wavemaker or an inexpensive wave maker combo? I'm trying to get the best bang for the buck in this situation. I was thinking about using a single Tunze Nanostream (the 6045) but they're non-controllable. I'd like to have the water flow from different sides of the tank (one side first, then the other side) if possible

i made a wave box for my 75 with 2 mj 900s. for a controller i used a chauvet sf - 4005. its a timer used for dj lighting and i have not had any problems with it yet. they are a pretty cheap timer and i would say the best bang for your buck on the market. you can get them here for 29.99 + shipping.

by the way, the mj's do tend to rattle a little bit when they pulse on and off. i think it is because they are an ac current pump and start in reverse then snap quickly to forward. my pumps are stock, no mods, maybe they wont chatter with the mods, i dont know. mine have been running for several months now and only chatter once in a while.

does the controller you mentioned turn the pumps on and off completely? from your answer it seems like they do.

Thanks

hmm.. I'm thinking it might be best to go another route.. I would ideally like a soft start controller or wavemaker that will accomplish the above.

i have a wave timer it looks like a power strip and you can used 3 mj with it i had one for a year in a 220gal. tank it moves the water nice:D

Thank you for posting. How did you like the setup? I've seen that one before as well. Do the MJ's make noise when the pumps turn on and off? Did you have any MJ mods with the powerstrip?

i use the red sea with 4xMJ1200's and have been using it for almost 3yrs w/o any problems.

niblis is correct with not ruuniing the modded ones on it.i learned from my mistake

I have the wavemaker with the 3 timed outlets that comes with MJ's. I tried using the mods on it for about a week and I just couldn't handle the clacking noise. Seemed it would make more noise than produce waves with the modded MJ's. Now using MJ's - un modded is no issue at all. Works well.
