Maxi-Mini Eating Habits

I bought my maxi-mini from the lfs that had it for a month before I bought it. It look good at least to my eyes compared to the others 2 he had. It was opened up real nice to about 4 inches and mouth was closed. I have had it going on to 8 weeks now and it been eating krills once to twice a week. This past week I have tried to feed it twice but it won't take the krill. It still open up everyday to about 5 inches and mouth closed. Water parameter are good and it is under HO T-5 lighting. I am wondering if they need to be fed this much or do they go longer without eating or could it be something else?

I personally feed mine a few times a week but only with Mysis Relica. I think they don't really need strong lighting. Have mine under T8 before and they seem to like hiding underneath rocks most of the time.

Think about these creatures in the ocean. No-one is coming by once or twice a week with a turkey baster filled it krill to feed it. These things rarely need any intervention from us. As long as you are broacast feeding your tank at least occasionally, they can get whatever nutrients they need from the water column.

These anemones grow very fast if you are feeding them directly. Feel in mind however, that they are small. Very small in compare to clown fish hosting anemones. Keep in mind the size of the animal vs the size of the food. I would feed him smaller pieces, or less frequently. You may get to the point of maximum amount of food he can eat can (if he is growing). If he is not growing the you got to check you tank conditions; water and light parameters.

I am going to go with less frequent. He had no problems eating the size I was giving him. As long as he look healthy and doing good I am not going to worry about it. The only supplemental feeding I do, is once a week I feed Phytoplan and Coral Frenzy for all the filter feeders.

while i dont have maxi mini's, i have had minis for about 4 years now. i have never directly fed them. started with five and have about 50 now..they seem to get all the food they need from fish poop and whatever i add to the tank.
