This is the first real test video I've seen. I have seen the tests with the balls and what not but they've always been empty tanks. I always wondered if rock work and such would actually allow the theoretical flow pattern to work or not. Here's the video. Maxspect at 20% vs 2 mp40s at 60%. Well I like it but the flow is so one direction all day. I would want 1 on each side and run 1 for half the day and the other 1 the other half of the day. Looks like to much flow to run both at sams time in sure the collision would make for a nice random flow in the middle of the tank.

I was wondering if the pump can run in reverse? I know sounds kind of strange but it would fix Rogers question. If not then you would have to run 2. I dont want my flow going just one way. Also I might be wrong but isnt the 50w the largest one they are making?

For reverse flow just turn pump 180° but it'll probably create a sandstorm

Also I did see somewhere that they were reversible, however they wouldn't perform as well because the way the blade is designed. You should be able to get 2 and control them, I think it also has wave mode/random modes as well when I saw the video. The pump looks pretty versatile in all the videos I've seen of it, especially if you want to reposition it.

In my head it seems that reversible wouldn't really work out for a large number of reasons. First being blade design. Second being motor integrity. You wouldn't be able to switch the direction of the motor without first stopping it and then going backwards. I also imagine that it takes a small bit of time for the gyre effect to actually build up in the water column. I think they decided to keep it unidirectional just to keep the issues down to a minimum. I imagine even with opposing units thr cycle time between the two would be fairly high vs normal powerheads which alternate based on seconds. Not to mention you have a good deal of momentum in the water column that the opposing unit would first have to fight to over come which in my head seems like it would create some nasty turbulence towards the center of the tank. I think Rogers idea of running them on 8 hour cycles would probably work out well.
