My start in the hobby came in 1998 when I received a 40g tank as a gift from my fiance. All through college I was interested in marine aquariums and developed a ritual of visiting the LFS on the weekends. I was quickly obsessed at the beautiful colors that nature creates. Back then, I never bought an aquarium because it was not allowed in the dorms. My LFS ritual continued and my fiancé obviously grew tired of me going to the fish store clearly without the intent of ever purchasing anything. That all changed Christmas day of 1998! Shortly after that I joined the local reef club SCMAS. For those that do not know, our club is responsible for bringing Reefapalooza shows to the hobby. In 2008, I became president of the club.
My quest for knowledge in this hobby led me to April of 2002 when I discovered the the world of Reef Central. I learned so much reading the threads and TOTM articles in Reefkeeping magazine. I made it my quest to become TOTM and eventually with hard work and dedication, I achieved my goal. I have been amazed at how fast the internet revolutionized the hobby. This has afforded me the opportunity to share my love of the hobby as well as help inspire new hobbyists. My goal here on Reef Central is to make this hobby easier and less complicated. I want to dispel the myth that this hobby is hard and maintenance heavy. The reality is, this hobby is only as hard as you want to make it!
