MegaBite's 180 & Shallow Reef

Megabite, what's that coral all the way at the bottom right of your DT that looks like grass? It's beautiful.

It's just you're regular ol' Neon GSP. The PowerBrite LED hits it and makes the colors pop quite a bit as well. I try and keep it away from the rock on it's own little island cause that stuff lies to take over. I have to trim it about once a month.

Here's a closer look of some GPS and Anthelia in my frag tank.

Thanks megabite! What does the gps/gsp stand for? It's beautiful, it looks like a meadow of grass =P Have to get some.

GSP = Green Star Polyp.

GPS = Typo on my part or Global Positioning System

its kinda funny,,, your frag tank is turning into a display as well, the frags are becoming full pieces. awesome job

I think that my "frag tank" was another excuse for me to do a second display tank. Only the left side is left with actual frags. The right side is pretty much for anemonies. There are 6 in there with a few frags from the other tank I'm letting grow into colonies.

Sonner or later I'm going to need a frag tank to put stuff from my frag tank in. :D

Beautiful DT!!! I am really digging the aquascape, thats just what I have in mind for my next tank.

Also, those are some of the nicest GSP's I ever seen. I wish mine had color like that. They lost thier color when I first put them in the tank. I had a PH spike that went up to/above 8.8 and didnt know it. Ever since then they look like this...

They are healthy and are spreading like mad, so I hope someday they get thier zoan...zoanthel...zoanthelle..uhm...COLOR back.:D

Thanks man. I have that kind of GSP as well. It's not as green as the other one but a little greener than yours maybe. That type of GSP naturaly has a browner look to it compared to the other one.

Wow the tank is really looking amazing!

Thanks Spleify! It's been a lot of fun and rewarding putting it all together and seeing the fruits of ones labor and expenses.

Now another question for the masses. I have a couple of Clarki's in the DT that I've had from the beginning. You can see one hosting a green Gonipora/ flower pot in one of the pictures. These 2 are terrorizing my sandbed digging it up and getting all the nasties out the bottom of my DSB into the water column along with spreading sand all over the corals. I've been debating taking them out but feel bad for them. I'd put them into the FT but they'd probably end up beating the you know what out of the true perks in there. I guess it's more of a moral question but would you all suggest I just deal with it, try to find a new home, or is there some way I can remedy this?

Here's another pic for the heck of it.

Those power bright LED's are expensive, but dang they make the corals POP! Great tanks keep up the great work!

Dustin

The Power Brites are pricey but what a differce in color. Makes everything pop so much more. My tank looks like everything is glowing when they are on by themselves. Love the look. I have 9 bars in there so like you said, spent quite a bit but adds so much to the overall look of the tank.

your setup is absolutly beautiful, thank you for the inspiration

Thanks and good luck when you get started on your build.

Well, I gueass I can't call the frag tank a frag tank anymore. Put more rock on the other side and got rid of the eggcrate.

It's just a shallow tank now. Here are a couple of pics. Not great shots, the water was still a little murky from moving things around and I haven't finished the final rock placement but here's what it looks like so far. I'll take better pics later.

What is the fish midway up second from the right. It looks like a Chromanthias.

It's just a Lyretail Anthias. There are 4 in there (3 in the picture).

Great looking tanks. I also see we are neighbors. Are you an ORCA member?

Yes I am. I also see that you are going to buy the LR from the ORCA site. You setting up a new tank?

Good luck with your new tank!

For me, the most enjoyable part was the whole set up thing. I really miss it so I now rely on constantly tinkering with my tanks to keep me entertained.

I made about a million mistakes while spending a small fortune due to them so read up on all the info you can and make the right choices from the get go with purchases of equipment and live stock.

Don't be like me and have no patience. It's usually costly. :D

You changed the title of the thread, had my really confused for awhile!

I agree that the build is the best part, my build was so rushed due to time restraints I'm finding it nice to just sit back and enjoy the tank for a little bit. Now I just need to stop buying so many frags and actually let them grow...

I'm also planning on building a frag tank to go next to my reef like yours, just on a much smaller scale (24"x18"x14"). I forgot, did you build your own frag tank or have it built for you?
