Melanurus/Hoevan's Wrasse And Sand

Quick question, I'm thinking about buying a Hoevan's Wrasse, but I'm wondering if I have the right sand.
I'm reading that you need the tiny salt/sugar grain sand so it can bury?

My sand is that in between stuff, I think aragonite?
Like this... Would this still be ok?

That looks acceptable to me. It's only a concern when the grains are big enough to cut/scratch the fish.

Thanks. I just knew it wasn't the "Beach Sand" that's the super-fine salt/sugar grade.
I wanted it to be able to bury itself at night and such.

That is the exact sand I use and have 2 haliechorus species wrasse that have been happily burying themselves in it for 2 years.

Well I picked it up, he went in, scoped out the tank for about a minute and wham smashed down into the sand bed and hasn't been seen since.

So I guess the sand is suitable... Hopefully he doesn't stay under for long.

I use medium grade (3 mm) coral gravel in my set up. My H. melanurus wrasse seems fine, but I can clearly see some scratch marks on his skin. This does not seem affect him in a bad way though.

I have two melanurus. Each in a different tank. One tank has the Caribbean Fiji pink sand. The other has the more coarse special reef grade. Both fish are doing great. I keep sand depth at 3-4 inches.

I qtd them together with a container of sand. Just an inch or so was plenty. They were skittish.... So needed pvc to hide in.

They were to be a pair, and but alas they duked it out and had to be separated. Hand selecting a dominant and sub juvi to qt together wasn't enough to spark a relationship. Heehee. Oddly they were friends all through qt. Only after going into a 6' 125 did war start.
