Mhucasey's SPS obsession

Wow Matt. :) Is that math and stuff? I got lost on the first = :D

Good stuff, will be interesting to see how it all works out.

That's what I love about this thread. There is a ton of useable information, rather then just his exact setup. still only on page 50 but I'm learning a lot :)

Matt, quick AF question..
What's the difference between np pro and pro bio f?

NP Pro is the carbon source, and must be paired with the ProBio S bacteria. ProBio F is an all-in-one lyopholized bacteria and dry carbon source for small tanks like nanos.

What is your reasoning behind isolating iron Matt? I always thought it was good for bringing out green colouration.

Great reef setup btw :)

Yeah right :rolleye1:

If i may Matt:

What he was trying to hint at in a polite way was the following:

Use this all in one dose moose man, less chance you'll bugger it up. :hammer:

THAT is what he wants you to get i believe ;)

Andrew, you a mind reader AS WELL as a coral whisperer!!!

!?!? (Gaasssp!!) did somebody say the dreaded green word!?!?

Andrew, ANDREW!!! Do something!!!!

Matt,
Great info, and like Mark, I was lost immediately, lol :)
So did you get that RX online? I think the idea is cool, I just wonder during exhanging the media if putting all fresh online together at the same time might stress the corals? Anyway, keep us posted, also, did you decide on an AIO Rx ?
Cheers

Did I miss something? AIO rx?
Aren't you already running the calcium reactor?

Does the components strong, used when mixing your own Components 1+ 2+3+, from aquaforest contain this maganese everyone keeps bangng on about? I'm sure I did go look it up but I'm feeling extra lazy today

Thanks for the compliment:). As for Iron, most of the time tanks have plenty for normal function and color. Too much iron and STN can occur when there is a carbon source present. Too much Iron can also shift corals more toward green, and green is the color I desire the least when it comes to SPS.

So all that adds up to keeping Iron levels low. I've made that more difficult by using Zeolites and GFO which both leach Iron.

The reactor comes tomorrow, I selected an Avast media reactor. Debora has been doing the AIO method for years without issue, and my recent change outs have been at the same time so I'm less concerned about shock. The nice thing about this method is I can clean the reactor 100% each changeout and keep the flow much more steady. The Vertex zeolite reactor's pump keeps getting clogged and I think a fair amount of flow bypasses the media altogether.

If it doesn't work out, I'll just use the reactor for carbon and GFO

Yep, Mn is in there:thumbsup:

Wow Matt , you are cleaning out asd man. Thats some collection you got brother..

Well I went to ASD for food and perhaps coral and didn't come home with any corals:p

They have a big shipment of corals coming in next week but this week there was only one frag that was reaaaaaly interesting, just not $150 interesting:

Your right.. not worth 150 bucks. I almost placed an order from them this week but ill wait then :). Btw quick question. I was trying to order coralb since i ran out , but apparently i ordered component b :(. So i had to re order . Anyways is component b the same as micro e ? Or completely different?

Component B is like Two Part solution (the Alkalinity part). Its nothing like Micro E unfortunately. They should be able to take it as a return I would think, or you could buy part A and C and use their system. With all three you don't need MicroE
